Have I been upgraded?
I am flying tomorrow to IAD and back to LHR on Friday. The outbound flight was booked in Premium Economy and the return flight was booked in standard Economy. The reason is that, as per company policy, if the outbound flight is longer than 8 hours and the return is longer than 7.5 hours you get to fly Premium Economy (unless you are a VP - which I am not - in which case you always fly Business).
The outbound flight is longer than 8 hours so my company booked me in Premium Economy but as the return was 7:25, per policy they booked me in Economy. When the check-in opened today I upgraded the return to Business and paid cash, but I left the daytime outbound in Premium Economy, as it doesn’t really bother me.
I downloaded my boarding pass clearly saying “Premium Economy” and everything and now I went to the app and the seat number changed from 20A to 14F (aisle). I was disappointed because I usually prefer a window seat so I thought “maybe the airplane changed”. I downloaded the new boarding pass with the new seat and to my surprise it now says “Business” it doesn’t say Premium Economy anymore.
I have NEVER got an upgrade with BA ever. I am Silver and I last year I had almost 13000 TP at the end of the qualifying year. I fly a lot to the US usually West Coast, and I also have plenty intra Europe flights especially to Lisbon which I usually book Business because I like it. I also have Business award flights with the AMEX Companion Voucher, so I guess BA knows I am a good client.
I guess my question is, is it normal to get upgraded on a LHR to IAD flight at all? Bear in mind I paid in cash the return from IAD to LHR and also that I am Silver member having had almost 13000 TP last year. But again, I never got an upgrade with BA ever, so I am really surprised.
Thanks for your insights. Enjoy the rest of your day.
