Just wanted to share my parents' experience getting their B1/B2 visas approved today (May 4th). Hopefully, this helps anyone currently preparing for their parents' interviews!
Biometrics (Hyderabad) – Smooth & Flexible
- DS-160 Update: My parents had two DS-160 forms (an old one and a new one). We told the staff at the biometric center to update it to the new one, and they handled it right there without any issues.
Interview Day (Chennai Consulate)
- Appointment Time: 10:00 AM.
- Entry: They were allowed to enter about 20–30 minutes before the scheduled time.
- Minor Hiccup: My mom had a small issue where her barcode wouldn't scan. They asked her to wait for about 10–15 minutes while they figured it out, but it was resolved, and they let her proceed.
- Language Support: My parents only speak Telugu. The consulate provided a translator for them, which made the process much more comfortable.
The Interview Questions The Visa Officer (VO) asked three main questions:
- Why are you going to the US?
- Where in the US are you going?
- Are you facing any problems or threats in your home country?
They answered these directly, and the VO told them the visa was approved!
Key Takeaways:
- Don't worry if you have a new DS-160; you can update it during the biometrics appointment.
- Arriving 20-30 minutes early is fine.
- Translators are available and helpful for parents who aren't comfortable with English.
Good luck to everyone else in the process!
