Just wanted to share my parents' experience getting their B1/B2 visas approved today (May 4th). Hopefully, this helps anyone currently preparing for their parents' interviews!

Biometrics (Hyderabad) – Smooth & Flexible

  • DS-160 Update: My parents had two DS-160 forms (an old one and a new one). We told the staff at the biometric center to update it to the new one, and they handled it right there without any issues.

Interview Day (Chennai Consulate)

  • Appointment Time: 10:00 AM.
  • Entry: They were allowed to enter about 20–30 minutes before the scheduled time.
  • Minor Hiccup: My mom had a small issue where her barcode wouldn't scan. They asked her to wait for about 10–15 minutes while they figured it out, but it was resolved, and they let her proceed.
  • Language Support: My parents only speak Telugu. The consulate provided a translator for them, which made the process much more comfortable.

The Interview Questions The Visa Officer (VO) asked three main questions:

  1. Why are you going to the US?
  2. Where in the US are you going?
  3. Are you facing any problems or threats in your home country?

They answered these directly, and the VO told them the visa was approved!

Key Takeaways:

  • Don't worry if you have a new DS-160; you can update it during the biometrics appointment.
  • Arriving 20-30 minutes early is fine.
  • Translators are available and helpful for parents who aren't comfortable with English.

Good luck to everyone else in the process!
