What to do with my hair
Currently growing my hair out and looking for advice before my next haircut.
I have very thick hair with a slight wave and I’m trying to grow it towards a longer relaxed flow style like the reference pics at the end.
Right now I feel stuck in that awkward in-between phase. The top sits pretty well, but the sides tend to puff outward or fall straight down after a few hours, especially around the ears. Sometimes parts of the front/sides also fall forward again instead of staying swept back. The back also flips outward a bit, which I actually kind of like and want to keep.
I don’t really want to go shorter. My goal is medium-long hair with movement and a more intentional shape, not a fade or tight sides.
Current routine/products:
- mousse after showering to style it back
- sea salt spray mostly on the ends/back
- hair powder once dry for volume/texture
- small amount of wax daily
One issue is that heavier clay products make my hair look greasy really fast, especially with how dense my hair is.
What should I actually ask my barber for?
I was thinking maybe:
- more layers
- removing weight internally
- texturizing
- cleaning up around the ears a bit
- keeping the length while improving the overall flow
Or should I just keep growing it untouched for a while longer?
Would appreciate honest advice from people with similar thick hair or barbers/stylists who know longer men’s hairstyles.
(First 2 pics are my current hair, last 2 are roughly the direction/style I like.)
