Take the hyper-carry pill and climb
After nearly 1400 games I have finally reached eternus. I don't have many friends who play the game and my family and coworkers don't much care that I'm good at an obscure game they've never heard of but I feel like I need to share this with someone and want to share some advice I've learned along the way. I come from a league background mostly playing hyper-scalers like Kayle and Aurelion Sol and have always been moderately good usually ending up around mid diamond each season I played. Once deadlock became an option though I dropped my league addiction for the cursed apple and haven't looked back.
I've climbed from ritualist and spent the significant majority of my time in phantom and ascendent climbing predominatly with hyper-scalers (Seven my love). Here is my unsolicited advice for what worked for me:
Treat the game more like a moba and less like a hero shooter. Good micro is great, but good macro is way better. The question you should constantly be asking yourself is what is the most valuable thing on the map, and can I actually do it with both parts being equally important. Sometimes the most important thing in the map is the urn, but if you have two dead teammates you probably cannot complete it and you're wasting your time by picking it up. Especially if you're a hyper-carry going from a solo-wave to clear medium camps and grabbing boxes on the way to and back is the most efficient source of souls on the map. But depending on game state it might also be mid-boss, shrines, the urn, double sinners, the big camps, the boxes above mid, bridge buffs, etc. You should practically be staring at the mini map while planning out your route and next source of resources while you're doing whatever you're currently doing.
Movement matters way more than you think. If you are not adept at movement you will not be able to keep up and it will cost you whatever that valuable thing you decided you wanted in step 1. Moving optimally in this game is EXTREMELY difficult and I am honestly awful at it, but just knowing some basic routes, wall-jump/corner-boost locations, and how to mantle-slide will get you 90% of the way there. Also, sliding is OP and everyone who wants more bullets should be doing it more.
Always ban bebop. Even if they nerf that clanker into the dirt it will never be enough. I hate bebop.
Try to coordinate your plans with your teammates more. I don't like using my microphone often (usually only to praise teammates who did something exceptionally cool) but there are many ping options which give you much better access to communication tools than say league. If the thing you want to do in number 1 requires teammates (a lot of them do) you have to tell them that you're going to do it and need their help. Additionally, telling your teammates to back-up and listening to retreat/no pings is vital. It's very easy to hyper-focus on a low HP enemy that's just around the corner without realizing you're walking into 2 more full health enemies who are going to kill you instantly. If you're attentive on the minimap you should know when people are missing, and where they last were which will save your teammates (if they listen to your pings) and yourself.
Thank you for listening to my ted talk and I'm happy to answer any other questions people may have in the comments. I truly love this game, despise the robot, and can't wait to see you all on the cursed apple.
