Cancelled leg of trip has $0 value
My family had tickets to travel yesterday on an itinerary from London Gatwick to Boston and then Boston to Pittsburgh. During the first leg of the trip, the second leg of the trip was cancelled. We received no additional information, nothing was rebooked, no updates. We ended up renting a car and driving instead. I called today to request a refund of the “unused portion of the fare” and JB indicated initially that they can’t provide a partial refund on a through-fare, then after escalating provided numbers stating that the price we paid per ticket was almost completely allocated to the London-Boston leg and the remaining ticket price was taxes, so the value of the Boston-Pittsburgh leg was zero and therefore nothing would be refunded. This sounds wrong to me, as every seat clearly has some value. They sent me a reimbursement form to maybe get some money back on the vehicle rental, but I don’t think that is appropriate compensation. Has anybody navigated a situation like this?
