While Astarion is dreaming of ruling the realms, his consort focus on the smallest things: like a butterfly.

The heavy oak doors of the palace study usually kept the tedious nonsense of Baldur’s Gate at bay. Today, however, the nonsense had arrived in stacks of parchment.

Lord Astarion, the Ascendant, let out a long, theatrical sigh as he dipped his quill into the inkwell once more. For hours, he had been reviewing, signing, and burning correspondence from the city’s most powerful patriars. They begged for his favor, bargained for his influence, and foolishly believed they were dealing with someone who cared about their petty mercantile politics.

He leaned back, his crimson eyes shifting from the neat stacks of paper to the velvet chaise lounge across the room.

There she was. His beautiful consort had tried her best to keep him company, but the dry legalities of High Hall politics had proven to be the ultimate sedative. She was fast asleep, curled up gracefully, her auburn hair contrasting softly against her pink attire.

Astarion set the quill down, the scratching noise finally ceasing. The world could wait. The patriars could wait.
