This story and this author are absolutely fanstatic. Her Tav is named Eleanor and is unlike any other protagonist I've seen before in fan fiction. She is so very complicated like people are, and approaches everything from a place of past abuse, low self-esteem, a bunch of therapy afterwards, and a wickedly smart intellect.

The way she portrays Astarion... chef's kiss To my mind, she easily has the most "accurate" (and yes, that word is doing a whole lot of heavy lifting!) portrayal of his actions and thought processes I have ever seen. His relationship with Eleanor is thorny and complicated and hurtful and healing and somehow just right for the two of them.

Her portrayals of the rest of the team are on point as well, and while she deviates from the story line, it's adjacent to canon in the best possible way. In my opinion, AstadiWrites is at her best when she deviates into more original material. My personal favorite of the series so far is "What Shall We Become?" which is a completely original story about their journey to Baldur's Gate that somehow manages to be...well, right somehow.

Is anyone else out there a fan as well? Wanna start a book club?

I am going to cry so hard when this series comes to the end! Hopefully, it won't for a long time.

I hear that it is apperently bad and nothing like Astarion in the game. Is it true? I preordered the book months ago but I am probably cancelling the preorder if it is true. Also did Neil say anything about the book?

For some context, I'm a little new to this game and this world... My husband introduced me to BG3 earlier this year, and I'm only on my second play through now. I've romanced Astarion both times, because how could I not? And I found the craziest little plot moment last night, and had to ask if you guys have encountered this...

So, I'm deep into Act 3 right now, almost done with this run, we're all lvl 12... and I'm trying to complete as many things as possible (that I even know about, because from what I have read and can see, there is always something new when you play again)... so I'm down in the sewers, we've done Orin, we've done the Iron Throne (actually managed to save Ravengard), so the next thing I'm teed up to do is Ansur, then crush the Steel Watch so I can take on Gortash, and then wrap up the game.

But... I wanted to complete ALL of my companion quests this time, so I'm working on finding Minsc for Jaheira.

So we're down in the sewers and I find this little wooden barge on the glowing green sewage water, and we board...

Down the way we go, and we find this lone citizen named Lorna, looking around curiously...

Mind you, unintentionally, I've got Astarion selected/leading the way at the moment...

We walk over and start a dialogue, and this poor lass is telling us all about the handsome man she's got a date with, she's waiting for him to meet her... she met him at a tavern, and they had dinner (he brought his own metallic smelling wine and pushed his food around his plate** and everything), and he seemed so into her, she was supposed to meet him at the "palace" for "a party" but she got turned around, and she's waiting for him there.... and... come to think of it... you look just like him...? O_O

BRO. We ran into a woman that would have become one of Astarion's victims. Which was ultimately confirmed when I went through a nearby door, only to find myself back in Cazador's dungeons (killed him way earlier on, so the rest of the map was already revealed).

The dialogue options were kind of funny, but also kind of like... O_O -awkward-

Astarion says nothing to you about this after. I wish there were some kind of dialogue right after where he's like, "What? don't look at me like that... Cazador's orders..." or something.

Lorna ultimately runs off after the conversation.

Has anyone else found her?? For additional reference, she is one pit stop on that raft away from where you find Voss if you pursue the Orphic Hammer.

** I actually wondered about Astarion eating, or not eating, real food. I know in some lore (TVD, Twilight, etc.) they CAN eat human food, but usually only for appearances, in no way does it sustain them. It seems in this world, he may not even be able to eat it? And now I want all of those wasted camp supplies back... or I wonder... does it even count Astarion when using up your camping supplies? I've not noticed, and now I am wondering.

Ok so I have a question and I feel like it’s one of those stupid questions but I’m compelled to ask it.
This is a question about his past trauma/abuse.

So Astarion was forced by caz to pick a target, sleep with them and then give them to him to drink, correct? (Which we later find out he’s keeping for the ritual).

Was this at the caz estate? I can’t imagine having a one night stand with someone and then following them to their place come morning. And then the logistics of walking in the sun as a spawn home.
If they’re bringing them back to the estate was there a dedicated room for it because depending on caz’s mood you’re either in bunk beds, worse or I guess a fancy room. Also if they did bring them back was there any actual need to sleep with them because they’re already at the house? Was this a caz is a very sick person thing?

I can imagine people being tricked to come to the house under the guise of sex I just can’t figure out how it works in this context if that makes sense.
