Context: In the month leading up to Ruby vs Maka, I started binging RWBY and periodically left updates on Reddit. I got all the way up to where Yang and Blake confessed their love to each other, which to me felt pretty rushed. So I just said “screw it I’m rooting for Maka”. Last night, I realized there was like four episodes left, so I just decided to finish the series, get it over with.

And oh my god…this was a gut punch. I forgot how heavy this series can be. I can’t really describe it, it’s like how in the original Bleach series, >!pretty much no one dies because everyone has plot armor and fights start to lose value because there’s no stakes, and then immediately in TWBY everyone dies. Everyone just drops like flies, one dude GOT SHOT IN THE FACE AND LOST HIS FUCKING EYE!!!<

Anyway, back to RWBY. Long story short, Ruby is emotionally and mentally burned out after losing a lot of her friends, and after breaking down in front of her team(and Jaune) she runs into the forest. She runs into Neo, who proceeds to take the forms of her fallen friends and decide to beat the ever loving shit out of her until she kills herself. Then the Curiosity Cat comes back, who wants to steal Ruby’s body and almost succeeds. And when Little tries to save her from him, Neo kills Little. This is the tipping point for Ruby, and she just “doesn’t want to be her anymore.” So, she drinks Neo’s magic tea does some magic bullshit that I don’t wanna go into.

Now, I love this episode. It makes Ruby very relatable, I feel like at some point we all just wanna be someone else, just to escape our pain. RWBY(as a whole, not just this particular season) has gotten a lot of tears out of me, probably making it one of my favorite emotional media experiences. Overall though, I give the series an 8/10, my favorite characters are Ruby, Oscar, and Ironwood(in descending order)

RIP Monty

I just wanna say that I’m glad Monty Oum got his dream episode, and I‘m also glad he liked it.

The animation was awesome, especially with Maka’s Black Blood dress and Ruby’s Ultimate Scyth Form.

But Ruby is just way too fast and way too strong for Maka, and I’m a little upset that Maka didn’t have any feats that could rival Ruby destroying the Sun in USF.

Cool episode though, and shoutout to Monty for his new series Cleavers Of The Unknown!!
