Thank God for our GOAT

The tracking period this last week has been an absolute shit show. Between all the discounts, different single versions, radio airplay spikes, I have never in my life seen people try to cheat the charts so much. Thank God we can comfortably celebrate our GOAT going number 1, breaking the MJ tie, breaking the Jay Z tie, and breaking all these other streaming and chart records with the power of just enjoying his music alone. It’s so well received, NY radio doesn’t even know which song they want to play, I’ve heard Janice, 2 Hard 4 Radio, National Treasure, they played some Little Birdie version ft Kodak which was lowkey fire.

I just cant imagine having to do all that buying 100 different versions, buying CDs, Vinyl, T shirt bundles, for the sake of first week debut sales. Don’t get me wrong, I wish that stuff was available so I can get my hands on it. But to know Drakes got fans who are genuinely excited to tap into his music when he drops, AND to know his music is not just good but gets better and better over time. It’s such a good feeling. Like seeing Drake number 1 these last few weeks really feels like a celebration of music, like music really won. Drake is like a reminder that there is power in the music we choose to enjoy. People like to cross Drake’s hits off as viral hits because they’re not massive commercial one. But idk maybe I’m indifferent but that shit feels way more sincere and authentic to me than a song going number 1 because they’re playing it thousands of times in malls. I mean if you take enough shits in a Target you’re going to eventually learn all the words to a song like Ordinary.

🧊🧊🧊

Yup, another entendre that went over my head. Obviously Drake is saying he got his body froze cryonically to be brought back a hundred years from
Now. But I didn’t know Alex Moss was a jeweler, so he’s also saying they got him covered in ice. Which also leads into the other obvious one that Drake is Iceman.

That Drake and Jay Z discourse came and went 🤣

Dead ass no one is talking about that freestyle IRL. I asked a couple of my friends who attend Roots every year what they thought about Jay Z and his freestyle. And they thought it was cool but were not moved by the freestyle. They more so just liked his performance and all the artist he brought out. But they ain’t hype about the whole freestyle, it was just a moment, no ongoing conversations. Yesterday i was catching up with friend and we always talk music and no one even brought up the Jay Z thing. It crossed not a single persons mind. That shit is getting no attention outside. Like no joke, people fr don’t care about that shit and people hate talking about Drake outside his music. Everyone’s in summer mode now, vibing to all the new music, laughing and having fun. Outside is completely back to what it was

The Drake inspired new rules to the rap game

So clearly Drake has dominated the rap game for so long that he is now up against the game itself. And in effort to knock Drake out of the top spot, the hip hop culture has come together and readjusted their rules for the sake delegitimizing Drake. I never in my entire life thought id see this happen in hip hop, but let’s let’s see what we got

  1. Rapping about money, women or any form of acting tough is now bad and distasteful
  2. Making music that people like to bump and dance to is now cheap and bad
  3. Using rap to explore new sounds is bad and you will be considered a culture vulture
  4. Rap battles are no longer about rebuttals, lyrics or wordplay but who has the biggest song
  5. Using entendres and wordplay is considered ABC rap if you’re not discussing deep issues
  6. Controversial diss tracks should be edited to give DJs the opportunity to play versions that dont directly come at someone they like
  7. Charts and numbers now matter with an emphasis on physical and digital download pure sales

Any new rules I missed? … I know there will be plenty more to follow
