Questions about Mao

Somehow, this sub came up on my feed. We all know that the Chinese are proud of their 5000 year history, but it seems like scholarship into the 70 year history of the CCP is very limited. In particular scholarship regarding Mao, who is the Chinese ‘brand’, appears to be essentially forbidden. Apparently he was 70% good 30% bad or something like that, and now you can’t talk about it. It’s unthinkable that any other historical figure would be treated like that in a free society, so I’m curious how the Chinese think that they have a future of being accepted in or even leading the developed world, if there’s no way for thoughtful people to talk about the past and future of Maoism and the CCP brand. What would Chinese leadership even look like?

Sincere question. Are the Chinese expecting the rest of the world to just adapt to this?
