Having so much trouble keeping puppy calm after spay

My 9 month staffy got spayed a week ago. She was calm the day of surgery and most of the following day, but once the sedatives wore off a bit she was trying to climb the stairs and jump and play with our 3 year old staffy. We kept up with the trazadone and gabapentin per the recommended dosing, but by Sunday she was going stir crazy and we caught her briefly in a wrestle session with our other dog. By the time I got to her I noticed she had pink discharge coming out of her incision, so I freaked out and we spent my first Mother’s Day at the emergency vet.

They triaged her, but ultimately said her stitches were intact and the discharge was just because she had been active and irritated the wound. They sent us home and told us to keep her on the sedatives and rest as much as possible, but in the morning there was more discharge and her incision was really swollen. I took her into her regular vet and they said to start a course of antibiotics just to be safe. They also told me to start giving her Acepromazine, which did seem to help a ton with keeping her sleepy…. BUT it gave her fecal incontinence 🫩 So she was shitting in her sleep and getting it all matted in her fur and bedding. Her vet said it’s a somewhat rare side effect and to cut her dose down to 1/4, but that didn’t help and she was still pooping without knowing it and getting poop everywhere. I was really worried about poop getting in her incision and a bigger problem happening, so we stopped giving her the acepromazine and have just been giving her the gabapentin and trazodone.

Unfortunately she just isn’t responding to the sedatives really at all anymore. I’ve tried all the enrichment— kongs, puzzles, frozen mats… her appetite isn’t great so she’s just not interested at all and just wants to run and jump and be crazy. If I contain her to a crate or a “safe” room, she just howls and scream barks and jumps up on the barriers. I have a 11 month old baby and another young dog, and it’s just so hard to be managing all of this. I feel so badly for my puppy girl, and I’m just at a loss with how to keep her calm and help her. Her vet says we’re now having to start over on healing time and need to keep her calm for another 14 days and i just want to cry. This is so hard on all of us. OH and we’re moving to a new home in 2 weeks… so i’m also trying to pack up my house. Send help!!!

Firm Latex Mattress Topper

I’ve been sleeping on a medium, memory foam mattress with my 11 month old following safe sleep practices. She stays either on her back or side, cuddled right into me all night, and always has. Except last night I rolled away to go brush my teeth and when I came back she had rolled onto her belly, which made me nervous about the safety of the mattress and possibility of rebreathing with a softer bed.

I just ordered a 3 inch FIRM latex topper. Would this make my set up safe, even being on top of a memory foam mattress that’s more medium than firm?
