Hit $100k last year and now just hit $200k!
I don’t know how I got here, but for anyone doubting it’s possible…it is. You just have to start.
I’m 32F and only started investing in 2019. At the time, I was in grad school, working full-time, and knew nothing about investing. I read about Acorns, opened an account, and used the weekly investment + roundup features while making less than $60k. Most of my contributions were just $20 here and there, sometimes $50. During that time, I was focused on paying down credit card debt and private student loans, so I really couldn’t contribute much.
In 2020, a coworker mentioned Robinhood and NVIDIA, so I bought $1k worth. At that point, I still wasn’t contributing to a Roth IRA, and I was doing the bare minimum for my 401(k). I don’t even think I had selected funds or set an actual contribution percentage.
In 2022, I got my first post-grad-school job making $82k, and that’s when I started taking investing seriously. I contributed 15% to my 401(k), maxed out my HSA, and used my 2023 bonus to max out my Roth IRA for 2022. I’ve kept that up ever since.
Last year, I maxed out my 401(k) for the first time, and I plan to do it again this year.
I hit $100k in January 2025, and now I’m over $200k.
