Unpopular Opinion: HMs are good for the game and shouldn't have been removed

I think HMs forcing you to pick Pokemon to traverse a region adds to the immersion of the game. Instead of calling some random Machamp to teleport and break some rocks for me, it feels just that extra bit more realistic to have the Pokemon you caught use Rock Smash on them. Similarly air taxis or whatever they're called just feel like... why? You just teleport somewhere without a cutscene. It's much cooler to fly there on a Pokemon you caught yourself. It just feels so much more rewarding to travel around using Pokemon you bond with to help you out on your journey outside of battles.

They weren't perfect though, and there are definitely ways in which they could be improved on.

  • Some of them are too weak (Defog, Cut, etc). They should be improved on.
  • Not being forgettable is too restrictive
  • Some of them are a bit restrictive in moveset choices - perhaps having them not as moves but as teachable actions to learn. For example, you could teach your Charizard how to fly with a HM that you get after a certain point in the game, but you wouldn't have to teach it the move Fly.
  • Not all of them make sense in being standalone - why does Cut but not Slash cut down trees? Perhaps trees could be cut down but "cutting moves", rocks could be smashed by strong physical attacks, etc etc kinda like Legends ZA

I know everyone seems to hate them, but I always liked them & enjoyed building a team around them

YouTube channels to improve your game IQ

Hey guys, have found some pretty good videos by coaches to help improve decision-making on the pitch and how you should understand how to play your position. I pride myself on being able to play pretty much any outfield position to a pretty good amateur to semi-pro standard (depending on the position) and mostly those are just thanks to having a versatile skillset and understanding of positions by experience and watching videos.

There may be some eye-opening things here that improve your game from the next time you play, or maybe it won't click for a while, but these have really helped me improved from a "baller" to a "player" - going from someone that's got the physical and technical qualities, to using them efficiently in games - especially over the last year.

This post is not for new players, it's for players that are decent technically, have some experience playing, and want to improve their in-game decision-making. Decision-making is one of the most important skills in football, but the outcomes of your decisions scale with your technical skill and there is little substitute for that.

GED Football is a Korean coach who makes very short and easy to understand tactical videos for the individual player. He's made playlists by positions and has more general team-based videos too. I watched these videos in particularly to make more intelligent runs as a winger, help my team play out the back as a CDM, and how to think about positioning and movement as a CAM, but he has many different videos.

Chasing my Potential is an English coach who has experience playing at the semi-pro and lower level professional level in England. He has some shorter videos and some longer videos, and they mostly cover technical skill at the finest details as well as analyses of professional players and their decision-making. I've learned many things like how to help my teammates get on the ball more, what I should be thinking about when taking someone on 1v1, and how to out-think other midfielders.

Player Plus is a 1:1 coach in England who has coached players from all levels from academy, to semi-pro, to even Premier League players. His videos are typically shorts and focus on technical skill at the finest detail. They're good for quick watches to immediately improve your technique. My finishing and ball retention in midfield has gotten loads better thanks to him. He used to be on YouTube but you can find his videos on Instagram or TikTok

Dunno what this guy's name is but he's a semi-pro striker in England and uploads useful videos on finishing and movement for attacking players.

Become Elite is an ex-pro and tbh I haven't watched many of his videos but the ones I have found quite good are his 'IQ tests' which I've linked. They're longer, takes a match and breaks down decisions that players make and asks the audience to think and guess what action the player should/will make. He also explains thought processes well. Interactive and gets you thinking. I mostly agree with his "answers" but even if you don't learn anything it's good to figure out how to articulate football

These are just some that I remember off the top of my head. If anyone has any more please feel free to drop them in the comments!!

People who box Pikachu...

Why? Isn't like half the charm of Yellow that Pikachu follows you around and you can interact with it? Why not play Red or Blue instead? Is it just the starters / sprites?

Part 1 Tier List

This was harder to do than I thought. Mix of feats and hype. Here are some of my thoughts:

- Edo Hashirama and Tobirama are nerfed, Hiruzen was able to get off powerful hits on them and ultimately seal not just them but Orochimaru's arms all while being blind.

- Minato and Itachi are hard to place and I don't mind dropping them into Mid Kage, but Oro admits inferiority to Itachi, and all the quotes about Minato in part 1 really go towards his placing as well as FTG + Rasengan combo being incredible.

- Kisame hadn't shown enough to be placed higher, Sakumo extremely hard to rank but have to assume he's around the same strength as a younger Sannin. Dan and Fugaku must have been at least somewhat comparable to a Kage for either of their plots to make sense.

- Ranking some of the elite Jonin is difficult. Firstly, Zabuza lost to LOW Kakashi twice who was obviously weaker than post-training Kakashi due to low chakra reserves, but is pretty much the definition of an Elite Jonin, and Kakashi doesn't show any Kage level feats at all in part 1. Kurenai and Asuma are pretty hard to rank, but either High or Elite Jonin seems fair. Both were able to do something to Kisame, though arguably Asuma made more progress.

I think the rest is pretty self-explanatory.

How did I do? Let me know where I'm wrong!
