What’s above/beyond this block wall?

This subgrade blockwall is really confusing me.

The interior space above it (first floor) extend beyond this block wall. We in fact see i think subfloor going beyond the block wall in the pictures.

I don’t see any rim joists though.

This house was built in the 80s in northern westchester, ny.

Here are some pictures I took, when the wall was open for renovations. I wish I peeked above it!!

What kind of bug is this?

I’m in northern westchester county, NY in a wooded area and found this fast critter crawl into oven mitt (eww!!).

it’s about .75 inches.

Looks like some type of roach? thanks!!
