So does anyone else wish authors were honest about their story when they write the synopsis?

Not saying they didn't write a good story maybe but it's not what I wanted to read when I read their synopsis.

For example the synopsis builds up the "foundling mage going to an Academy and their trials and tribulations of fitting in as they learn their powers" and then halfway through the first book they are out of the academy because they are too op, or they got kidnapped, or they change career path, whatever. It's like bitch please you sold me on an Academy series & then jerked out the rug.

Or when several characters are mentioned and you go "hmm these guys sound interesting" then discover they are side characters only and they hardly get any development or page time.

Or when the magical market, kiosk, inn plot line etc. that sold you on the story gets left in the charge of an assistant and the MC goes off and does MC stuff & they rarely even check in.

Or in a similar vein you get interested because the synopsis is all about town/base building & the MC pisses of to other planets for training arcs or tower climbing or god knows what else.

EDIT - I should have worded the title differently as I didn't mean to imply authors were intentionally lying. To be fair the majority likely are not and would be (& should be) offended it I had meant that.

I'm coming to realize from the comments the case is more likely that the author wrote the synopsis early in the story's life and then never updated it as the story found a new path.

LOL still frustrating though :)
