Can I get away with just a filling instead of a crown here?
I had this tooth (I believe its a 2nd molar) treated for a cavity that unfortunately got pretty deep thus I am still expereincing pain when chewing in that area. There is no pain unless I am chewing directly on top of it. My dentist said she needs to do a root canal and use a regular filling however I see that the general opinion is that 2nd molars always require crowns due to being the main teeth used for eating.
Any thoughts on whether the filling would be enough based on the X-ray or do I need to seek a second opinion that will insist on having a crown? For reference I am 25 and have all of my other teeth in a good condition. Thanks in advance!
