Questions about school from a future teacher

I'm studying to be a teacher and was hoping some of you might be willing to help me out by answering just one, a few, or all of the following questions. Please be as brutally honest as you want. If you want to tell me these are stupid questions, and I'm a stupid person - go right ahead! Any answers that you think might actually be useful, however, would be deeply appreciated. Thanks!

What are you interested in? If you were going to pick a book in the library what topic would it be on?

Do you have any idea what you want to be when you grow up? Do you ever think about that? Is it related to what you’re interested in? Do you feel like there’s anything you do in school that will help you achieve that or any other goals?

What is your favorite subject? Is it because you like the material or the teacher? Or both? What do you like about the material or the teacher?

How much time do you spend on social media? What do you do on social media? Do your interests and social media overlap?

Do you enjoy working in groups in class?

How much do you feel like you learn from your classmates when you’re working in groups or partners? Do you enjoy helping your classmates and do you think it helps you learn when you explain things to them?

Do you prefer in class assignments or when the teacher is speaking to the class, explaining the topic (lectures, powerpoints, etc.)?

How would you feel about different students in the same class being assigned different material based on how well they do in that class or how capable the teacher thinks they are? Some students would be assigned more difficult material, and some students would be assigned easier material.

What do you think about the advanced or talented and gifted classes? Are you in them? If not, do you feel left out or left behind? Are you glad you don’t have to take them? If you are in them, how do you like them? Does being in these classes or not have any impact on your social life?

Would anyone who immigrated to U.S. with school-aged (K-12) child care to contribute to a grad school project?

I'm hoping someone might be willing to share their experiences navigating the school system (public or private) in the United States as an immigrant parent. This interview will ultimately result in a 5 paged double spaced essay, so I'm thinking a 20 minutes of your time should cover more than enough ground to suffice. My main goal here will be to identify any social or cultural gaps that existed between yourself and the school your child attended. I'll ask about any struggles or rewards connected to schooling that you've experienced. I'll also ask a little bit about yourself, your background, and your family.

Your identity of course be 100% anonymous, and I would be happy to share with you a copy of the final paper. Zoom, google voice, or any voice chat option of your choosing works! I promise it will be laid-back and as quick as I can make it. I'm studying to be a middle school teacher. Your time would go a long ways towards helping me be a better teacher for students who have parents who are going through the same things you've gone through. Thank you for your consideration.
