My 6-year-old dog with stage 4 kidney disease is getting weaker despite treatment
Hello everyone, I really need some advice or insight. My 6-year-old indie/GSD mix has stage 4 kidney disease. She has been on IV fluids, injections, medicines, and renal diet support for the last 10 days.
She is still drinking water and passing urine/stool, and there has been no vomiting recently. But she is not eating on her own — I am hand-feeding her very small amounts. Her body weight is dropping day by day and she seems weaker overall.
Her platelet count is normal, creatinine is slightly improved/stable according to the vet, but clinically she still looks very weak. Some days her breathing rate increases and she has occasional nose flaring, though she also has calm periods where she rests comfortably.
I am trying my best to keep her comfortable and continue treatment, but seeing her lose weight and strength is heartbreaking. Has anyone experienced something similar with kidney failure/tick fever recovery in dogs? Did your dog improve after prolonged IV treatment, or is progressive weakness usually a bad sigh?
Any honest experiences or guidance would really help.
