DoW Audit Conference

What are your thoughts on the DoW audit conference? I found it interesting that this was hosted by DCAA and our director didn’t come back after lunch and didn’t answer a single question. We are by far the largest audit agency and it seems like we are far behind the other audit agencies, except navy (lol).

Director Town Hall:

Hey y’all! We had a town hall with the agency director today and just wanted to provide details of what was said.

Flex schedule:
We asked why the 4x10 schedule was removed. She said it’s because the agency was struggling to respond to customers on Fridays. We brought up the possibility of people shifting their flex day to a different day and she said “I stand by my decision.” She also said the 4-5-9 is staying.

Hub locations:
She mentioned the move to hub locations will like take 3-4 years to complete. Explains the GSA process is lengthy and that’s about it. She mentioned the Irving Hub was just expanding into additional floors in a building they already occupy and that wouldn’t be complete until 2028.

DCAI:
She mentioned they are reviewing what is taught at DCAI and plan on expanding the number of course offerings. It was also brought up to attend WarU courses and she encourages attending those. We brought up directorates were not letting people attend and she said she would discuss it with them.

Transfers:
She said the transfer process is open and any requests should be routed as per policy. We all know the directorates are holding onto these so not sure that’s true.

Telework:
She hinted at telework might expand somewhat. She doesn’t believe taking week long courses virtually in the office is effective so that was the basis behind the telework for DCAI courses. She’s also pushing for more DCAI courses to be in-person. She ended it with “more to come”.

Employee feedback:
She mentioned to they do plan on sending out FEVS type surveys in the near future now that’s it’s been delegated down to the agencies. She also mentioned they are brainstorming other more effective and efficient ways for the field to provide feedback. We did mention the Air Directorate leadership has not been great at communicating with us and she said it would be discussed.

General:
Overall she said the agency is auditing more dollars and questioning more dollars than ever before. We are one of the few agencies still hiring and having people travel. She stated a lot of the decisions she has had to make are hard but she does them to protect the agency. She said they try to be a part of the conversations with senior leadership rather than have higher dictate things to the agency.

Some other audit specific stuff was talked about i.e. use of AI, public account firms, new software.
