Asking for work as an intern

Hello, I’m currently doing my internship and I’m wondering if I should always be asking for work. How much is too much? My supervisor is pretty busy so I don’t want to bother them too much, but I also don’t want it to seem like I’m not doing work. Should I ask my team members for work too?

I got hired as a GS seven instead of a GS nine because of the government shut down in the CR, but I am kind of curious since I’m starting in a couple of weeks. What should I watch out for with DCAA?

I am kind of curious how long the 52 weeks will last which is in a year in total, but I’m wondering what exit options I have eventually in the future cause I look at how much money I’m making and it’s kind of slow, but I’m gonna take what I can get right now

DCAA Location Question

I received an email from DCAA saying:

“This message has been sent to inform you of favorable interview results with the Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) and that you have been recommended for selection by the interview panel.

You have been selected for Chandler, Arizona and the request will be sent up to directorate leadership for final approval.”

Does this mean Chandler is essentially locked in, or could I potentially be considered for another DCAA location before final approval? I was hoping for a lower-cost-of-living area, particularly Dayton, Ohio.

Should I email HR now to ask about this, or wait until they contact me with the offer?

DoW Audit Conference

What are your thoughts on the DoW audit conference? I found it interesting that this was hosted by DCAA and our director didn’t come back after lunch and didn’t answer a single question. We are by far the largest audit agency and it seems like we are far behind the other audit agencies, except navy (lol).

DCAA vs Public Accoutning

I recently got an offer from the DCAA starting a little over 70k. Because of the career ladder, my base would go to a little over 85k after 52 weeks, and then over 100k after the next 52 weeks (3-4 years total). This seems crazy to me as someone who just graduated with my masters and only had offers in public accounting (not Big 4 sadly) all around 64-65K.

I know there a a lot of opportunities that public accounting can open you to, but just based off the pay scale the DCAA seems like a better path to start out. I also haven't felt as much pressure to complete my CPA as soon as I can as I have with public accounting.

Am I crazy for choosing to take a government accounting path over a public accounting path?

Could I get to a pay situation in public accounting similar to the DCAA in 3-4 years without being at a Big 4?

Did I screw up or am I worried about nothing?

I did my DCAA auditor interview on Friday morning and haven't gotten a response or follow up. On paper that sounds like nothing but I've heard of people instantly getting some indication of their interview being "favorable" whether it be directly from the interviewer themselves or via email shortly after. I'm a pretty stiff interviewee so that's why I'm anxious even though I studied and prepared for the questions extensively. For reference, the night after I submitted an application I got an email at like 7 in the morning, and I was corresponding through email at the rate of text messages, almost instantaneous responses leading up to the interview in terms of scheduling and addressing any prior concerns. I totally understand in terms of business days and time since the interview, very little time has elapsed, but relative to the other proceedings I've outlined and the experiences I've read on here, I am worried I choked away another opportunity, is my concern valid or nah?

Interview Update

This is my third and possibly final post about my DCAA journey. I got the news that I passed, but unfortunately for me there were no spots and I'm tied down in NY for school/familial obligations. I followed up and asked for a timeline on an opening and he basically said people don't budge from their spots. Overall I felt I benefitted from the experience from a confidence perspective, feels nice to have a win under the belt, and I felt prepared throughout the interview and the practice paid off. If it works out, great but the blunt transparency and advice I received from both the DCAA agency itself and from everyone who replied/engaged when I needed guidance is something I really appreciate and isn't common enough in the hiring process. But if this is it, thank you guys for everything 🙏

Suitability Review Timeline

Question: People that went through the onboarding process with DCAA. How long does a suitability review typically take to be completed. For me it’s been a WIP since the end of July.
