Dr helping on costs

Just saw my doctor today. I didn't even need to ask—he suggested prescribing the 15mg pen and even printed out a clicking chart for me. As a bonus, he bulk billed the appointment.

I managed to get the 15mg pen, which is the golden dose for getting the best value.

He wants me to increase to 5mg, but I think I'll stay on 2.5mg for now as I'm still losing around 1kg a week.

With the health rebate, it works out to only $20.30 per week. It's great to see health practitioners trying to help save their patients money.

Golden dose

Hey can anyone confirm if this has the golden dose. I have had two doses already.

Just want to pre plan and get some needles if it does. Any recommendations too?

Dose and IBS

Hi everyone,

I'm overweight (not obese) - 6 ft tall and 96 kg - but I also have high cholesterol, fatty liver and EPI (I've had an MRI which showed no damage to my pancreas, so my doctor was comfortable that Mounjaro was safe for me to use), which is what helped me get the prescription.

I'm only using it as an aid while I make long-term lifestyle changes. It's still very early, so it could be a placebo effect, but I'm already eating much healthier, being more mindful of what I eat, and exercising a lot more. My goal is to get down to 82 kg.

I weighed myself on the day of my second shot last week and was already down to 94 kg. I'm currently in my second week on 2.5 mg and haven't had any side effects so far. If anything, I have had positive effects from the medication. I'm not sure whether my food cravings have reduced because of the medication or if it's just the placebo effect at this stage.

I also had IBS symptoms previously, and they've pretty much disappeared. That could also be due to the healthier diet. I try to take Metamucil every morning as well.

My doctor has also organised blood tests and a urine test after one month, just to make sure I'm not experiencing any negative effects from the medication.

Questions:

My doctor prescribed 2.5 mg with two repeats. I assume I'll stay on that dose for the full 12 weeks (alot cheaper, also get $80 back from private health). The pen also looks like it may have a fifth dose left, so I may use that as well. Has anyone stayed on 2.5 mg for an extended period? How did you go?

Has anyone else noticed an improvement in their digestion while taking it? I've read that higher doses can sometimes cause more digestive discomfort, so I'm curious about other people's experiences.

Have people been able to maintain or even build muscle while on Mounjaro? I'm doing weights, taking a protein powder after my workouts, and making a conscious effort to increase the amount of protein in my diet.

Cost-wise, Mounjaro is definitely expensive, but are people finding that even with the monthly cost they're actually saving money because they're eating less and snacking a lot less?

Cheers
