need to fly long haul in 2 months and I know I will spend the next two months spiralling in fear

I need to fly back home in 2 months (and then return), and absolutely frozen with fear, even thinking about getting on a plane. I fly home every couple months, so did that back in February, and it's time again. Time to prepare myself mentally. it's a 8 to 10 hour flight. I cannot stop myself from reading and looking into plane crashes. Haven't booked my tickets yet but will soon and absolutely freaking out.

I will probably fly BA or Virgin Atlantic which I know are good airlines but it just doesn't help my fear I dont know why. I think what makes me really panic is that even people who eventually did pass away in a plane crash did probably think it is not a very likely event, or remembered the stats of safety of flights to themselves. It could also be me doing the same right now.

my brain is just currently filled with what ifs of turbulence, both engines failing, failed take off, landing and every possible thing really. its so bad I have never successfully watched a movie on a plane or slept for longer than an hour as I always try to check altitude/speed etc and panic as soon as something changes.

urgent - Wet socket - my letting agency's electrician plugged it back in after it dried - and he is being too chill about it I am worried

so the socket which connects to my hob and fridge got wet - due to some water dripping from the gap behind my sink. The RCD tripped and the electrician found the fault (which was the wet socket) - but then now according to him it has dried overnight and he also dried it with a hair dryer. He has plugged it back in and it hasnt tripped in about half an hour. - but i googled this and apparently this can still be a problem due to corrosion developing inside the socket due to remaining moisture? he was too chill about this and didnt even open the socket to check and this has made me so worried. should i call another electrician? i literally do not know anything about this and am freaking out.

Is it okay to take part in a competition (like hackathons) on a student visa

There's no prize money associated with winning - but they just reimburse travel. Its a 5 day competition/workshops. I am a PhD student - so will be taking those 5 days off.

The competition is to network and learn about entrepreneurship - I know the student visa prohibits engaging in "business activity" or being self-employed - I just wasn't sure if this would be considered more for a learning experience and is not an issue?

I need to update my home address but the update my details page on ukvi account is being weird

Hi all, I need to update my address - so I went on to the update my details page. However it showed 'sorry service not available'. I refreshed and i could then see my ukvi account but then moving in between pages it again says sorry service not available.

I can see my evisa ok but I'm worried what is happening and not sure if i should wait for this to be fixed before updating address? Can someone log into the update details page and see of they're facing similar issue - moving in between personal details, contact info etc. It says sorry service not available.

I need to update my address not sure what to do.

Is the ukvi update my details page down?

Can someone please check this on their end? I need to update my address and i am not sure whats wrong. Logged in a few mins ago and it said sorry there's a problem with the service? I can still see my evisa though.

edit - it seems to come back after refreshing the page, and then says the same message of service not available, but sometimes shows 502 gateway error. I need to update an address soon but I am not sure if I should do if there's issues with website..

On a UK student visa can I take a 3 - day training course to enhance my technical skills as a PhD student

Hello,

On a UK student visa, are we allowed to take short 3-day external courses within UK? I would need to attend this course to learn skills related to my PhD but its not a compulsary part of my course or anything- its just for my PhD training. I can see there is a a section about supplementary study but it says you can only do evening classes/vacation periods? https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/student-sponsor-guidance/sponsorship-duties-accessible#courses

Its not any qualification, literally just a 3 day course to learn a technique which i need to use for my project. Added to this I will have authorised leave from my department. I am not registering at another uni or anything, the event is just hosted on a university campus.
