My Cat Won’t Stop Pooping Around The House
Hey everyone,
I really need some help with my cat. I’m having issues with him pooping all over the house, and only using his litter to pee.
Context: He is 4 years old. Ragdoll. He has a few pre-existing health issues; he was the runt of his litter, he has a heart murmur, liver shunt, short snout, kidney stones, and now what we’re thinking is something within the gut/bowel. He’s unable to have surgery as his body can’t process anaesthetic, and last time he went under he almost didn’t wake up.
We’ve never had this issue before, only within the last 3 months. It started by popping on rugs in the home, to when they were removed it moved to carpets, and now eventually it’s all over the house now. He still pees in the litter box, and when we’re walking around the house and up and about, he uses the litter box to poop. Only when we’re asleep, not home or sitting down elsewhere where we can’t see him will he then go toilet all over the house.
We’ve taken him to multiple vets, specialists, we’ve tried so many different things like changing the litter type, box, adding additional litters, moving them more hidden for him, moving them where he’s pooping (which he just finds somewhere else to go), we’re giving him probiotics at the minute, we also have loxicom if he has any bad flares of loose stools. We can’t change his diet as his body can’t process protein, so needs a specific diet. We’ve tried lots of positive reinforcement, treats (doesn’t care for them as isn’t food driven), we’ve tried keeping him over the weekend in the bathroom with only his litter box’s to try force him to use them. Nothing is working and we’re at a loss. We’ve spent so much money and time trying to fix this, and it’s starting to affect our own quality of life for example we can’t have guests over, or how I spend my entire day constantly cleaning after him.
The vets have said their hands are tied and they’ve tried what they can and the only other option is to put him down. He eats normal, drinks, plays, moves around outside all as normal, it’s just this pooping issue and we cannot figure out what the hell is causing it.
If anyone has any suggestions, and ideas or have experienced similar, please suggest anything.
When we got him at 1 years old we were told he wasn’t going to live long, to now he’s surpassing 4 years so we don’t want to give up on the little guy, he’s just becoming a bit of work and we need to figure something out.
Thank you all so much.
