I lost my best friend today from pyometra

Her name is Lilly. She was a 8 year old Yorkie and she was the bestest doggy in the whole wide world! Always a smile on her face, tail wagging, playing with her favorite hot dog toy. This house has never felt so empty even though you took up such little space.

I noticed she was acting low energy and wasn’t eating or drinking much Friday afternoon and just kept an eye on her and she wasn’t getting better over the next couple days and it just got worse. I brought her to the emergency room Tuesday morning and said goodbye a few hours later I can’t believe it. I just continue to think that I failed her as an owner, but I sincerely didn’t think what was going on was life-threatening.

When I brought her to the emergency vet at first, they suspected it was just pyometra after feeling her stomach. I had tests done on her and the results came back that she is also going through kidney failure because of the infection. I had no idea this can happen to a unspayed dog otherwise I would have done it and she wasn’t even that old at 8. I basically begged the doctor to give me any chance of doing something that can save her life but there was just nothing else they can do.

It just feels so unreal. I cried for hours and hours, I just want her back. I don’t have any other pets and I live alone so it feels even worse. I’m just in shock and hoping I wake up from this nightmare.
