Rutgers vs Fordham Finance Focus
Hey everyone, I'm really struggling with this decision and would love some outside perspective from current students, alumni, or people with experience in finance recruiting. I got into Fordham's Gabelli School of Business as a Finance major and Rutgers as an Economics major. My long term goal is to break into corporate finance or investment banking and I'm trying to figure out which school genuinely gives me the better shot at that. I know asking in the Rutgers reddit is subject to bias but this is the school I want to hear more from. Please also let me know how your experience has been or was at Rutgers, do you enjoy your day to day? (Keep in mind cost isn't a factor and I am a transfer)
The reason Fordham appeals to me is first the alumni network and internship placement. I really like the fact that I'd be in NYC and I've also heard a lot about the tight knit community which personally appeals to me. It is pretty respected on Wall Street and coming in as a Finance major through a Business School also feels more directly aligned with the path I want compared to studying Economics.
That said Rutgers is a serious contender for me because I already have strong connections there that would immediately make a positive impact for me. I've connected with directors of programs which are well respected, and those are relationships with people who I believe would be by my side.
What makes this so hard is that at Fordham I'd be going in with what I believe is a stronger finance brand name and NYC proximity but only having maybe one connect and grinding to build those connections myself. I am a transfer student so making connections fast is definitely crucial. At Rutgers I already have a little head start with people in my corner but I'd be an Economics major rather than Finance and not in the business school. So my main questions are first, does Rutgers open the doors I expect on Wall Street? And secondly, would you take a decently strong network at Rutgers over grinding for a potentially stronger network and better job opportunity at Fordham? Any advice from people who've been through this or work in the industry would genuinely mean a lot. Thanks in advance.
