stupid question but how do the grad announcers know how to say everyone’s name?

do they practice beforehand or does each student tell them when they go up?

Time flies during the semester

End of my sophomore year, I can't believe that it went so fast. Now I'm a junior next sem.

2026 Grad Feel Unaccomplished and Incomplete

Hello everyone! Congratulations to everyone else who's Class of 2026! I am an August grad who's gonna be walking at convocation tomorrow. I transferred to Rutgers in my sophomore year and I was super determined to have the best 3 years in college. However rigid unforgiving family obligations, mental health struggles, lack of social life and drastic body weight fluctuations severely contributed to the depression I ended up feeling. I am graduating with just barely a passing GPA. I am feeling extremely unaccomplished for when I walk tomorrow because I never made any friends, went to any party, or was a part of any club in my undergrad. I felt super detached from people and I wasn't really encouraged to be away from home and to essentially always be on call for those previously mentioned family obligations. I feel extremely socially stunted at 22 and I feel very upset that I couldn't do enough to have an active thriving social life. Its awful because these are the memories that people look back on decades later and I have none. No friends or significant silly stories to reminisce over. I've been told by people maybe I wasn't meant to find my people in college. But I never see anyone my age who doesn't have a large friend group, isn't involved in clubs, and doing well academically and in career aspirations. I feel that I'm just gonna graduate without having the full college experience and I feel really pathetic about that. I feel like such a massive loser and like my envy is palpable. Freshman year me would be super disappointed at what I became, and it upsets me every day. Even though I walk tomorrow, I don't graduate until August technically because I am still taking summer classes since I hadn't met the minimum credit load to graduate. I feel utterly defeated by how my college experience panned out. I don't say this to worry people about how their college experience will go. I want to stress talking to as many people as possible to increase chances of friendships, having a good support system, and prioritizing your academics at all costs. I just never see anybody who was a loner throughout college share such insight on how graduation feels for them. I just don't want anybody to end up like me. Please sign up for organizations no matter how trivial they seem, put yourself out there, you don't even need to be good at things just interest is fine. Keep friends close and do your best to mend any connections worth saving (this goes for family too). Mental health is just as important as physical health. Please have compassion and empathy for others cause it goes a long way. Anyways, I feel like I sorta lost the plot with this post. If anybody has similar experiences or stories, I would love to know. Just trying to raise awareness of one type of college experience.

Looking for a dog-loving student to watch my pup for ~10 days! Will pay + provide everything

Need someone to watch my dog for ~10 days! Will pay

My partner is traveling and my college housing doesn't allow pets. Looking for a dog-loving student near college(New Brunswick) who can keep my friendly 1-year-old pup for about 10 days(from 15 june)

I will provide all food, supplies, and compensation. Dog is vaccinated, house-trained, and super friendly. Only ask is that you genuinely love dogs. Happy to do a meet-and-greet first!

I would really appreciate the help!

Highkey cooked for convocation

I only found out today that you could request additional tickets by email, and after I sent one I got an automatic reply saying they’ll be responding to emails on Friday 😭 I know I’m incredibly late and it’s completely my fault for waiting this long to check my portal and making sure I had tickets for all the family members I invited. I just don’t know what to do from now bc I have to tell the news to them and let someone down yet I don’t know how to do that since I’m scared of the generational judgement they’ll evoke on me 🫩

Hi everyone,

You are recommended to take part in the 'AI Use in College Learning Survey.' This study will help us learn more about the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in your college learning process and the role that these tools shape your academic experiences.

This research is being conducted with a professor in Ocean County College.

This survey is voluntary; if you decide to take part in this survey, you will be asked to answer eighteen (18) questions (17 multiple-choice questions and one short response question), which will take around 10-15 minutes to complete.

You can find the survey here:

- By clicking this link AI Use in College Learning Survey, to access it directly.

- By copying and pasting this URL https://forms.gle/ZubsCJabNRVLpVhA7.

If you are not currently enrolled in any college or university, then you are not advised to take part in this survey. Nevertheless, you are encouraged to share this survey with an eligible respondent.

Before responding here are some important things to note before attempting the survey.

The questions included will be related to:

  • Your academic background (only includes your age group, academic level, and area of study)
  • Frequency of AI tools used and which tools you use
  • Uses of AI in your academic studies
  • Your opinions about the use of AI tools in learning and academic achievements
  • View about academic integrity and concerns related with the use of AI tools

Please note that:

  • All data you provided will be kept confidential and will not identify you in any way.
  • Only information related to your age, academic level, and your major will be collected.
  • Information including your email, name, gender, where you study, and other sensitive information will not be collected.
  • The software 'Google Forms' will require you to sign in for you to complete the survey; we will not collect your email addresses.
  • You have the option to skip certain questions and leave the survey at any time you want, and there will be no consequences for you if you decide not to answer the questions.
  • You will not be entered into any draws for prizes. There is no financial incentive to complete this survey.

We appreciate your time and cooperation.

Regards,

A student from Ocean County College

Professor said rounding my 79.1 would be unfair to other students, but she rounded another student. should I appeal?

I just finished a class and ended with a 79.1, while an 80.0 is required for a B. I emailed my professor respectfully asking if there was any possibility of reconsidering my final grade because I was less than one point away.
She said no and wrote:

“Per the syllabus, there is no extra credit. It would simply be unfair for me to allow a student to improve their grade after the semester has ended, since there are other students in similar situations (i.e., close to the cutoff for the next letter grade).”

I understand that reasoning, and if the policy is applied equally to everyone, I don’t really have an issue with it.

The problem is that my friend in the same class emailed her for the same reason, and she agreed to bump his grade up. So now I’m confused because she specifically told me it would be unfair to allow one student to improve their grade after the semester ended, but from what I was told, that is exactly what happened for another student.

I already contacted my professor directly to try to resolve the matter, but she refused. When asking why another student had special treatment, she cited grading policies that are not in the syllabus. At this point, my concern is less about the 0.9 itself and more about consistency and fairness. I pay a lot of money to attend Rutgers, and I expect to be subject to the same treatment and grading standards as every other student.

I’m not asking for special treatment. I’m asking why one student was allegedly given an exception while I was told the syllabus does not allow exceptions and that doing so would be unfair.

Since I already tried to resolve it with the professor, the next step would be going to the department. Would it be reasonable to submit a departmental grade appeal based on inconsistent application of the grading policy, or should I just leave it alone and move on?

Advice for an incoming freshman?

I’m reposting this because I want to see if there’s anything else I might be missing. I’m an incoming freshman to NB SOE (likely Industrial Engineering, but TBD) and I will also be dorming at B.E.S.T. Hall through the DAYFN LLC, which I have a roommate for. That being said, do you guys have any advice literally at all?

I want to know absolutely everything you wish someone told you before your freshman year/earlier in your college experience. This can be anything from academics to resources to food places, and can be as specific as one exact teacher or as broad as how to adjust to the change from high school to college. Give me ANYTHING you can think of that might help me. Niche little things are greatly appreciated.

Does your diploma specify if you graduated cum laude/magna cum laude etc?

Can someone who graduated confirm if this gets printed on your diploma or not? Thanks!

Ungraded Class

One of my classes still doesn’t have its grade put in. I asked a few people in my class and for everyone it just shows up as a K. What do I do and is this normal? Also the class is Principles of Electrical Engineering I.
