Redo neckline in top down sweater?
TLDR; is there a way to redo a neckline in bigger needles in a top down construction sweater? will doing so make the neckline look strange or hang weird?
I made my husband the Hanstholm Sweater by Petite Knit in Lang Yarns Yak. It’s the prettiest, softest thing I’ve ever made (if I’m allowed to say).
The construction is truly a top down sweater- you start with the neckline (vs picking up neckline stitches later).
I realized only at the end of the project that I did the neckline in needles 2 sizes smaller than I intended. I block it out twice which helped but it’s still snugger and less elastic than the wearer would like.
I personally think he should wear it every day- he wears it often but says he would wear it more if the neckline were looser.
Is there a way to fix this collar? If so, how? I imagine it involves cutting the neckline off, picking up the stitches in some way- a short row? I’m worried it will ruin the polished look- will it affect the way the collar sits?
