Why couldn't they pull a spider-verse and have Barry introduced as this long-running (hah) hero dying at the beginning and then Wally taking over the mantle?

this is very clearly me building out an excuse around a dumb story because I want me some wally BUT it's NOT impossible that we'd get Wally, and I'm not sure I want 10 years of DCU before Wally becomes the flash y'know, James Gunn is already doing this universe as though these characters have been around for a while so... not entirely impossible?
