₹3-4k topper vs ₹15-20k new mattress... where's the line between frugal and stupid?

renting rn and the mattress is annoyingly hard but otherwise seems... fine?

flat surface, no giant crater, nothing broken. i just don't enjoy sleeping on it.

new decent queen mattress = ₹15-20k-ish.

topper = ₹3-4k-ish.

so obviously my cheap brain has entered the chat.

i'm looking at the SleepyCat memory foam topper because i'd rather add some cushioning/pressure relief than replace a mattress i don't even own. what i actually liked while researching is that even their guidance basically says don't use a topper to rescue serious sagging or broken support. that's replacement territory.

which seems like the actual line?

hard but structurally okay = topper

dip in the middle / collapsed mattress = stop being jugaadu and replace it.

am i thinking about this correctly?

because spending ₹4k now and then ₹20k six months later would be the least frugal outcome possible lol
