[TOMT] [MOVIE] [1999-2005]

Hello,

I'm new to Reddit! I created an account specifically to find the film that's the subject of this post.

My apologies in advance if I make any mistakes in English, I'm French 😅

I need help finding an obscure film, probably made between the late 90s and early 2000s. It was a kidnapping film, American or Canadian, a B-movie, most likely a direct-to-video release. The film was probably shot digitally, with very "flat" color grading, like a TV movie. I saw it on DVD; it was in a "3 Psychological Thrillers" box set, which I bought at a large supermarket like E.Leclerc or Carrefour, between 2012 and 2015. Unfortunately, I've lost the box set.

The film tells the story of a rich and seductive psychopath who meets a woman, takes her home, and then holds her captive in his basement. It seems to me that she was the only captive. The psychopath was quite tall, muscular, clean-shaven, and had shoulder-length blond hair, I think. He lived alone in the house and went about his life normally while the woman was locked in the cellar. He only went down to feed her and talk to her.

Most of the film takes place in the cellar, which is a large, rather empty, concrete room with a central pillar (as I recall). In the end, the woman manages to escape, and the man is arrested.

I remember several particular scenes:

\- The man asks the woman to burn her identification papers and then calls her by a different name.

\- The man is listening to classical music in his living room at one point.

\- The woman was tied up in the cellar and ended up very thin.

\- I also remember a confrontation scene on the cellar stairs, probably at the end when she escapes.

\- I also (and especially) remember a very specific scene where he gaslights her: he serves her a plate of rice and asks her what it is. She says "rice," and he replies, "No, it's not rice!"

There was no erotic element to the film; the man simply wanted to hold the woman captive and drive her mad.

I wonder if the French title of the film referred to the captor. It might have been "Le Collectionneur" (The Collector) or something like that. But on Google, none of the first film results when I type "Le Collectionneur" match.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!
