“Pro capitalist” fallout? I don’t get it
Genuine question, it was my understanding for a while it was common knowledge that a game made 6 years after the “fall of communism” showing the United States destroying the planet with its greed and world domination was pretty openly anti capitalist, like from the start? Yet, almost every single critic I see from fallout fans about season two’s representation of new Vegas (despite my own issues with it) the main critics always say that it’s going in a political or anti capitalist direction like them not doing so would be faithful to fallout, especially new Vegas.
Short list of anti capitalist critiques I could think of in this game:
- in the H&H tool factory, the employees had to submit skin samples and blood daily to work in order to be subjected to mandatory dna tests (ex: who does feel like this at work some days)
- the entire power crisis, in the lucky 38 you can see news letters speaking about all the new flashy lights in the casino and one small note about the actual civilians of Nevada not being able to power on their homes. While the United States makes shit like Helios one has.
- the Sierra Madre and the whole DLC’s story is explicitly, openly, everyone agrees this, letting go, even more literally letting go of wealth but it obviously applies elsewhere. Elijah’s best ending (imo) leaves him trapped in a vault alone without air without food but full of tons of gold.
