Before I waste money and sweat...
New-ish homeowner here (1 year as of last weekend). Last fall, I took on the project of insulating my cape cod-style house and started ventilating it. To get air up along the rafters,I had to cut my top plate with a sawzall to get air up past it and up into the baffle vent (the baffle vent is isn't normally dinged up like that, it just happened when I pulled off the rafter rockwool). Note that my rafter vent is just sitting on top of the top plate. Today I pulled out the piece of rockwool I previously crammed beneath my top plate to block out blown-in insulation from clogging the soffit vent and saw mold on the underside of the top plate. So that I solve this problem once and for all, is the "fix" to push the bottom of the baffle vent 1-2 inches deeper than the top plate? Or is there something else I need to do to keep condensation from forming on the underside of the top plate?
