I-9 Process Question
Last Friday, I signed an offer for a minimum-wage job at a fast food place, and it would be my first-ever job. Now, I'm kind of lost. I'm a college student, so I told the GM that I'd be able to work anytime during the summer, and he informed me of what times of the day I'd need to work. I passed the background check on Saturday, did the online onboarding on Sunday (like reading policies and the tax information), and called on Monday morning to tell the GM I completed everything. He asked me to come in on Tuesday to show him two forms of ID for the I-9 (I chose my SSN card and driver's license), which I did.
I haven't heard anything since the GM gave me back my IDs. I saw the requirements for the I-9 verification, and I'm wondering if I did something wrong, like show the wrong papers or something. Is it normal not to hear about scheduling/results of my I-9 for almost a week? What exactly is an I-9 for? I'm sort of worried because my job is one that only one person fulfills at each location and I already have to go through an orientation. Would it be impatient of me to call and ask now?
