My mom gave me her engagement ring but there's a problem
My now fiancée got my mom's blessing to use her engagement ring when proposing to me. She always said she wanted me to reuse the diamond and I absolutely adore the sentiment of it. Only problem is the setting is extremely worn and one prong is almost gone. We took it to the jeweler and apparently we caught it moments before disaster. He told us we were days away from losing the stone, so we sent it for a repair. We're trying to figure out the insurance side before I start wearing it regularly. For an inherited engagement ring like this should I get it appraised and insured before we repair it or wait until all the work is finished and insure it at the new appraised value? This is my first time insuring jewelry so I'm completely clueless lol.
