Struggling with aluminium. (Update)
So I have followed some advice given to me on my previous post.
1: i corrected the HSS blank I had ground a negative rake on. And I used a much finer grit for finishing and honing.
2: I used some wd-40 as cutting oil. And it worked wonders.
3: I made sure the cutting tip was on centerline or a tiny bit under(I got it about 0.15 mm under)
I have now gotten a pretty good cutting ability and I'm able to hog about .25 of a milimeter of the radius of the part.
I have a couple remaining problems
1: I need to get a new belt for the gears because it's old and cracking. I'm currently trying to find some different types of belts
2: the cross slide going along the part so the one that going sideways. It has a nut that holdt the leadscrew in place. There is some bearing balls on the inside. Bow the problem is that when going forward there is no problem but sometimes when going back it loosens the nut at then jams the leadscrew. Which is annoying. It doesn't have a locking screw. The other cross slide that goes in and out has the same build but it doesn't have that problem of loosening itself.
Does anyone know how this might be fixed?
I thank all the help I got from the last post.
And any help on this post is appreciated. :)
