What do you guys think of my chances of matching and please tell me if you need any extra details.
I’ve seen a lot of posts on here lumping all “non-US IMGs” or “visa-requiring IMGs” into the same category, but I’m wondering how true that actually is in practice.
I have two related questions:
- When programs review applications, do they actually see your country of citizenship (e.g., Canadian vs. others), or is it just labeled broadly as “non-US IMG” through ECFMG certification?
- If they do see your background, does it meaningfully affect how they view you? For example, I’m Canadian and can obtain a J-1 visa very easily (often at the border, no consulate interview in many cases). In practice, would programs treat me differently from other visa-requiring IMGs, or is everyone just grouped together as “needs visa support”?
I’m trying to understand whether “visa requiring IMG” is actually a nuanced category or if programs essentially flatten everyone into the same bucket regardless of citizenship/visa ease.
