Found some tiny insects in my wood trim — how do I know if they're termites? What do they actually look like?

Just moved into an older house and while doing some renovation work I found a small cluster of pale, tiny insects inside one of the wooden door frames. I'm worried they might be termites but honestly I have no idea what termites even look like — I've never dealt with them before.

Are there different types that look different from each other? How do you tell them apart from regular ants? And are there any other signs I should be looking for beyond the insects themselves (like damage patterns or droppings)?

Any help from people who've dealt with this before would be really appreciated — I don't want to call an exterminator and pay for an inspection if I'm just panicking over nothing.
