Spouse employment
Hi everyone,
I was recently hired as a school nurse for a DoDEA school in Europe, but my family and I do not qualify for LQA. We’re currently trying to decide whether to accept the final offer or not.
Honestly, if we knew my husband would likely get hired within the next year or two, this would feel like an easy yes financially and for our family overall. But the uncertainty of whether he’ll actually be able to find work is what’s making this such a hard decision.
He has a master’s degree in education, is a certified social studies teacher, and plans to work toward additional endorsements in ELA and Spanish. He also loves sport and has tons of experience coaching. He currently is an athletic director and a basketball coach.
I would really love to hear from people who have been in a similar situation:
- Did your spouse eventually get hired?
- Did they struggle to find work?
- Would you still recommend taking the position without LQA?
- Any advice, encouragement, or even cautionary stories would honestly help.
We’re trying to make the most informed decision possible for our family. I know no one has all the answers, but hearing other people stories is helpful. Thanks so much.
