Ups and downs

I had a great Saturday, went to an event that had small planes, all sorts of emergency vehicles, and some fancy cars with a son's family including grandson (age 3, delightful!), along with another of my sons. It was a big change from hibernating in my bed with books or computer all day and I felt great afterward.

Then I woke up yesterday morning and didn't see my oldest (age 17) cat. Couldn't find her all day. My son finally found her deceased in the evening. 😭

I'd had her from bottle-feeding age and was very attached to her. She also used to cuddle up to my late husband frequently...maybe they're together now. I know 17 years is a good long life for a cat, but damn. I'm going to miss her.

Eating tuna in public? Hard boiled eggs in public?

I know cooking fish in a microwave is awful in a shared break area.

What about the little cracker and tuna packs, where the tuna is in a small tin can? I'm retired now but I used to take them for work lunches.

It never even occurred to me that the eggs might smell bad until I saw some comments on Reddit. I used to take a 2-pack of hard boiled eggs to work also. I would eat them cold; three or four bites and they were gone.

Were my coworkers cussing me out under their breath all that time and I never noticed? Was I a horrible person?

Can you all listen to music without it bothering you too much? I sometimes can, sometimes can't. Here's one that made me tear up this morning:

"Stay," by Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs, released in 1960. Some of the lyrics: "Oh, won't you stay, just a little bit longer, Please let me hear, You say that you will, say you will..."

Oh how I wish he could have stayed "just a little bit longer." 😢

(Background: Ours was a second marriage for both of us. We started dating 8.5 years before he died, and married 3 years before, and it was wonderful. We weren't perfect, but we were perfect for each other.)

I guess all of us here would have liked more time with our loved one.
