Delf clay to dry or to wet

Just a quick question: thanks for your advice, it's really helpful so I'll keep asking you things. I have a problem with Delft clay, it's either too wet or too dry, and I can't find the right balance, it's unbearable. Either the imprints crumble when it's too dry, or on the contrary, everything sticks when it's too wet. Do you have any tips on how to store it properly?

First Delft Clay Casting Attempt – Looking for Advice

Hi everyone,

I just tried my very first Delft clay(2 attempt same result) casting and it didn’t go as planned. As you can see in the photo, the metal didn’t fully fill the mold and the result is incomplete.

I’m trying to figure out what went wrong. A few possibilities I was wondering about:
- Is the ring design simply too thin for Delft clay casting?
-Are my vents poorly placed or not large enough?
-Was the silver not hot enough when I poured it?
-Is it difficult to cast fine jewelry with Delft clay, or should this be possible?

I’m completely new to casting, so I’d really appreciate any advice. If you see any obvious mistakes in my mold setup, please let me know.

The silver looked molten when I poured it, but it seemed to solidify very quickly. I’m wondering if I should have heated it more before pouring.

Thanks in advance! 😊

Looking for a torch recommendation for melting silver (lost wax casting beginner)

Hi everyone,
I’m getting into lost wax casting and I’d like to melt silver at home to make small jewelry pieces.
I’m looking for recommendations for a torch that can reliably melt silver. I’ve seen people using different setups (propane, MAP-Pro, oxy-fuel, etc.), and I’m not sure what would be the best option for a beginner.
Ideally, I’d like something:
Powerful enough to melt small amounts of sterling silver
Easy to use
Reasonably affordable
Available in Europe if possible
What torch setup are you using, and would you recommend it?
Thanks!
