Car Rides

Hi all!

My mini aussie just turned 9 months. He is the absolute best boy in the world. We adopted him when he was around 5 months old, so he’s been with us for about four months in total. He was potty trained within the first two weeks, learned how to settle in his crate effortlessly, so much so that within a month the crate was left open at all times, even when we left, with no issues.

He’s never anxious or stressed out … like EVER … except for when we get in the car. We like to take him special places with us, go on hikes, take him to the beach, etc.

We’ve been working towards making him more comfortable with positive reinforcement, taking shorter trips, and much more but the way he feels in car rides is just hit or miss. (I say hit or miss but it’s usually never a hit) No matter what he always has a stressed look to him, he’s panting, salivating, shaking, you name it! Sometimes he even throws up but that’s been pretty rare.

Overall, I’m asking for advice because we have to travel about 12 hours to go back to my hometown for a wedding. I don’t have any friends or family that I trust to watch him for 5 days, nor would i feel comfortable with that regardless. I also do not want to board him. basically, i want to take him with us, the entire 12 hours, but not sure if it’s torture knowing how anxious he gets in the car.

We are obviously planning on stopping almost every hour or so to let him go to the bathroom/sniff/etc. Which will most definitely give him a little bit of a break. I’m just not sure if there’s an easier way to go about it or not. Any advice will help.

Puppy Poop

Hello!

I have a 6 month old, male, mini australian shepherd.
His current diet is Purina Pro Plan Sensitive skin and tummy
(lamb and oatmeal) I have a hunch he is allergic to chicken.

He recently had a vet appointment for his final vaccinations this past friday and he got prescribed Metronidazole and Fenbendazole for soft stool with the occasional appearance of blood. It was kind of mucusy sometimes as well. the medication was intended to clear up Giardia. We just started both of them this morning as suggested by the vet.
He’s been acting completely normal, still himself, eating and drinking normally, playing and exercising the same amount.

The only difference between today and the previous few weeks was his stool. He went poop this morning around 8 am. he usually poops again around 12, however he never did. He ended up not going poop again until 8 in the evening. I also noticed his poop at 8 in the evening had black specks in it. (resembling coffee grounds)

I looked it up and it said it could be a result of parasite die off. but i’m still concerned because i haven’t seen this in his stool before.

My puppy will not go poop outside!!!

Hi everyone!

I recently got a puppy last sunday and we have already gotten him to realize that going potty outside is the right thing to do! He just turned 6 months old on monday, a mini australian shepherd.

He already has certain spots outside that he likes to go, so every time we take him out we lead him to those spots first thing. He has no issue going pee outside, but when it comes to pooping, he refuses!!

It’s confusing to me because he had no issue going outside and in his normal spot the entire first week we had him, but now when we tell him to go he looks at us and lays down, almost like he’s rebelling. I usually take this as a sign that he doesn’t have to go, but he does it almost every time up until the point I have to leave for work.

Yesterday I took him outside at least 20 times between 8 am and 2 pm before I had to go to work, and he still waited until I was gone to go poop in his crate. I only work a two hour shift so I am literally gone for about 3-3 1/2 hours. So within that time frame he went in his crate after being outside at least 5 times each hour before I left.

I have noticed him becoming way more comfortable around us, not sure if he’s testing boundaries or not. I never get angry at him, because I assume he is just confused, but it is a little frustrating taking so much time out of the day to take him outside and seeing little reward.

I’m not sure where to go from here. I don’t want to force him to go if he doesn’t have to, but I also don’t want him to keep having poop accidents in the house.

(I apologize if this post should be under the potty training category, I wasn’t sure which one to click)

Thank you in advance for any advice or ideas, they will be MUCH appreciated.

Concerns!

Hi everyone!

I’m not sure if this is allowed or not but I am seeking advice on my 6 month old puppy! I took him to the vet May 5th and they asked me to bring back a stool sample on may 22nd, after i voiced concerns about his poop being soft and often containing a little bit of blood. They gave him another deworming medicine, thinking he had tapeworms instead of the ones he was originally treated for. I’m not sure if the deworming pill could be causing his bloody, soft stool or if it’s something like Parvo, which I should be highly concerned about.

He has no other symptoms of Parvo, still eating about 2 1/2 cups of food a day, drinking water, going outside, playing, training, absolutely no vomiting or lethargy, and interested in almost everything I do, getting up and following me everywhere I go.

Should i be concerned?

He is a mini australian shepherd, 9 lbs, male, not neutered.
he’s had soft stool since we got him, and i always noticed some blood in his stool but just thought it was from deworming. again, he has never vomited since we have brought him home.
