All art by me, L-Mop. Lancer pilot Morgan Hollidae (see last picture) just had to up and die on us. As one last parting gift, they left my pc Grayson Summers (pic 2 is a recent doodle of him in his hardsuit) this sick ass custom Horus Gorgon named Brazen Serpent (pic 1). Art-wise, Grayson's mechs are frequently inspired by mythology, and I wanted a heroic-looking / IPS-N-feeling Gorgon. Decided to go with Moses' bronze dragon stick as inspiration, and then it all spun out from there.
uhhhh btw while i have ya, also check out portraits of a burning world lcp when that comes out or whatever
The AIA Ephemeroptera "The Candle", from me and my partner's upcoming massive homebrew Portraits of a Burning World (art by me, L-Mop).
--
LORE:
After the release of the Ex-Wife (check my profile to see that one), Eiteru Shalda entered an 11 year hiatus. When he returned to the public eye, it was to unveil the Ephemeroptera, a direct critique and explosive apology for his previous actions. Self-evidently, the Ephemeroptera uses its chassis to comment on focus, creation, and burnout. Its limbs are built with intentional breakpoints, its systems perpetually run hot, and in performances candlewax is slowly dripped down over the pilot inside.
GAMEPLAY:
The Candle is a self-destructive Controller/Defender. It's good at staying alive even while taking structure damage, and can repair a broken weapon and system on a rest for free. Additionally, all hostile characters that can draw line of sight to the mech gain a difficulty on all attacks that target others within range 3 of it.
However, there are some steep tradeoffs to such power. The Candle is addicted to the spotlight - it can't hide or benefit from soft cover, and when it ends its turn outside the line of sight of enemies, it takes self-damage.
ART:
I wanted this to feel like an explosive midlife crisis, so I looked at 60's cars and greaser vests (as well as that iconic diner arrow signage). The Candle had a lot of iterations (one I really liked was like two dudes fused together at the joints) but sometimes simple is the way to go. And of course it needs to be beaming in all directions - it's the center of attention! (also i think it adds to the clickbait aura which is just funny to me)

Are you tired of normal Lancer token art? Want something utterly dumb? Well now you can check out my free pack of 42 stupid lancer NPC tokens at the link! Use them for April Fools (your players will have forgotten about this post by then)! Use them for alternate universe dream sequences! Or maybe just utterly shock your players with a violently shitting Barricade placed in between all the other normal Retrograde tokens. I don't care, I just need to get this shitpost out there. Enjoy my scribbly nonsense.
The AIA Pompilidae "Ex-Wife", from me and my partner's upcoming massive homebrew Portraits of a Burning World (art by me, L-Mop).
--
LORE:
It's official name is the Pompilidae, but everyone calls the frame the Ex-Wife on account of it being a thinly veiled hitpiece by the artist Eiteru Shalda against his recently divorced ex-wife. The Ex-Wife represents a bitter low point in the Apogee Institute of Art's history, where this rich guy is just absolutely Posting Through It and the entire Omninet has gathered together to clown on him.
GAMEPLAY:
The Ex-Wife is a Striker/Controller phase changer. Every turn, it automatically swaps between the weapons-only no-hack Ambush Mode and the hack-only no-weapons Deceive Mode (it can also swap modes with a quick action). Each mode gains incredible benefits, but the constant swapping makes this Ex-Wife a fickle mistress to play!
ART:
This is a mech with zany lore, so in contrast to that I decided to keep the art somewhat restrained. It is half-size and pretty form-fitting, with a mask and body somewhat inspired by fine china and knightly armor. I wanted the reclining pose to feel statuesque, like you're seeing it in a gallery instead of on a battlefield.

The AIA Myrmecophyte (Aka "The Forest"), from me and my partner's upcoming massive homebrew Portraits of a Burning World (art by me, L-Mop).
--
LORE:
Another frame from the Apogee Institute of Art, this sculpture/mech represents the artist's very negative opinion of Harrison Armory, which he sees as an endlessly expanding toxic tree.
GAMEPLAY:
The Myrmecophyte is a Controller with 0 speed. Instead of moving, it quantum entangles itself with another space at a distance up to its speed as a quick action, functionally existing in both squares at once. Doing this again replaces the oldest space, unless the core power is active. While license-wise this is a drone mech, it gets benefits from getting in the enemy's faces, and makes its drones sturdier when it keeps them close to its body(s).
ART:
This "lumpy tree mech" design initially started out as a rejected concept for a mech on another homebrew. But I liked it a lot and felt it'd fit in great with our art faction, so after a few tweaks the purple tree thing you see before you was born. And for those wondering if this even counts as a mech - I honestly don't know either, but in my mind I think the tree is made of sci-fi plaster or something, not the real living deal. So hopefully that swings things in our favor?

my PC Grayson Summers (and his mech Flatboat Annie) finally got to fire the big fuckoff daisy cutter at a huge group of enemies last session. I just had to illustrate it (even if a friggin Aegis blocked most of the damage).
The HORUS Banshee, from me and my partner's upcoming massive homebrew Portraits of a Burning World (art by me, L-Mop).
--
LORE:
Srry it's been a while since I posted last- I frgot. Anyway, the Banshee is an antimemetic infohazard; information about it has an unavo§dable corrosive effect, wh§ch glitches and ¶istorts text, pictures, and m舐mories until they're completely illegibl and the m?ch is unknown once m╟re.
GAMEPLAY:
The Banshee is a super weird hacky, reloady Artillery. It can make non-Loading weapons into Loading for benefits, has tons of esoteric tools (can apply Lock-On to characters that are not within Line of Sight so long as they are within Sensors, and characters that are not within Sensors so long as they are within Line of Sight), and is generally centered around being a bizarre nuisance that's really good at annoying crowds while also focusing down one specific target. Its license also has lots of neat tools like a transforming nexus based on the five stages of grief, and a DAMOCLES-Class NHP that puts itself in extreme danger for extreme rewards.
ART:
I knew exactly how I wanted this to look, basically instantly. Who knew the three-hoofed cactus guy would be so quick to put together? Certainly not me. Hardest part was deciding if it should have thumbs or not. OH and for the record, the little figure next to it is named Seaglass, and she's the pilot of this specific Banshee instance.

The IPS-N Ching Shih, from me and my partner's upcoming massive homebrew Portraits of a Burning World (art by me, L-Mop).
--
LORE:
Happy pride month yall! I decided to post the Ching Shih today because its lore is that of a cute lil love story between gay-ass pilots. Albatross Captain Katia Malore engages in multiple skirmishes with "Pirate Queen" Brianne, who constantly taunts and flirts with her over comms during their battles. Though as Katia investigates more, she discovers perhaps there is more to Brianne's pompous personality than first appears?
GAMEPLAY:
The Ching Shih is pure Artillery - An aerial weapons platform meant to deny adversaries the high ground by flying over cover and bombarding enemy forces. It is able to soar up into the sky as a Protocol, and is equipped with an Efficient core power that, among other things, boosts its range for a short time. Can't give more specifics as it's currently getting some rebalancing, but yeah it's pretty neat!
ART:
Art took a while - my partner in this project Kate knew what she wanted from the beginning (as you can see on slide 2), but I wasn't so sure - so I did a lot of variations on the theme (as you can see on slide 3). Ended up with something that seems "shrimplike" and similar to but not exactly the same as the Lancaster.

The IPS-N Yŏhae, from me and my partner's upcoming massive homebrew Portraits of a Burning World (art by me, L-Mop).
--
LORE:
Although the IPS-N Drake was met with resounding success, desires to compact its firepower and durability into a more mobile chassis remained unrealized. Initial attempts were met with resounding failure, until designers found a solution was found hidden elsewhere in IPS-N's catalog - the Yi-Sun-Shin. Although the company had already funded the successful development and launch of the IPS-N Vlad, directly building off the Yi-Sun-Shin, the earlier frame still had untapped potential in its stabilizer tech. While the Vlad initially turned these outwards as an attack, this new IPS-N frame would instead turn them inwards as protection.
GAMEPLAY:
The Yŏhae is a Striker/Defender Drake alt, created specifically because I personally have a soft spot for the Drake. Its central traits make it so when it is Slowed it is instead Immobilized, and while it is either it gains damage resistance and bonus damage on one attack a round. Its core power rapidly redeploys the stabilizer limbs, making it so it is no longer Immobilized when slowed (and allowing allies to follow its movements like an Orchis).
ART:
My goal with the art was to make a half-detective, half-football player. This guy's armored and bulky but he's also had the shit kicked outta him. I also made sure to give a pop of color to those oh-so-important drill limbs. Oh, and in my mind the flags on the shoulders represent a space station of some kind.

The Apogee Institute of Art Dohrnii (nicknamed "the Womb" by pilots), from me and my partner's upcoming massive homebrew Portraits of a Burning World (art by me, L-Mop).
--
LORE:
A (quite literal) Defender/Striker from the Apogee Institute of Art, the Dohrnii represents the artist's complicated relationship with his mother, who sought to stop him from creating art. The chassis is made up of both a bulky outer mech and a dexterous pilot-sized Polyp suit, which flits in and out of the main body to paint the walls of art exhibitions. Lancers have learned that by overpressurizing its integrated paintball gun, the Polyp is a surprisingly effective anti-mech hardsuit.
GAMEPLAY:
A pilot of the Dohrnii is, essentially, a pilot of both a hulking protector and its agile spawn. Great Dorhnii drivers know when to leave behind their slow bunker for the speed and power of their Polyp suit, and when to retreat to safety.
ART:
The Dohrnii was one of the hardest mechs on this license to create art for. There were so, so, SO many designs before I settled on what we affectionately call "Hands Megatron." The pilot inside the Polyp suit is a bit of an easter egg - she looks like me!

The Apogee Institute of Art Pheonicopterus (nicknamed "the Outburst" by pilots), from me and my partner's upcoming massive homebrew Portraits of a Burning World (art by me).
--
LORE:
FINALLY, we are getting to the core of this homebrew! Portraits of a Burning World, outside of its base manufacturer frames, is centered around the Apogee Institute of Art. The AIA is a collective headed by an eccentric sculptor and mechanic who creates art that just so happens to also be fully functional mechs. The Pheonicopterus was made to represent the carrying of other's burdens and the weight that can put on someone. Outside of art settings it has found an (unintentional) niche on the battlefield as a Support/Striker.
GAMEPLAY:
The Outburst is all about absorbing conditions (Slowed, Jammed, Locked On, etc) from allies and collecting them onto itself. The mech can then shoot a burst or line attack from its central "Bleeding Heart Cannon," which does more damage the more conditions it has.
ART:
This design is clearly a gaunt, skeletal humanoid. I drew inspiration from flamingoes as well as, uh, perhaps the most famous burden-carrier around. Hey, we never said Apogee was subtle with its metaphors.
As I post more of them, you'll notice none of the Apogee mechs feature weapons in their art. These are, in my mind anyway, images of them in their intended art setting. Lancer pilots however probably tear all the decorative shit off, haha.

The HORUS Sphynx, a Hydra alt frame from me and my partner's upcoming massive homebrew Portraits of a Burning World (art by me).
LORE:
Project Hyacinth was originally an attempt by the Karrakin Trade Baronies to experiment on a captured Hydra chassis and expand its capacity to interface with OROCHI Prime. However, the project was raided by several Horus cells and its designs were leaked on the Omninet, causing new Sphynx-type frames based on its tech to appear in Horus circles.
GAMEPLAY:
The Sphynx is a Controller with a few tools, the most prominent of which are about vision and sensors. It carries integrated Morning, Afternoon, Night (M.A.N.) Drones that extend its sensors and tech attack area so long as they remain chained together, and its Efficient core power lets it share those sensors with allies for a short time each combat.
ART:
The Sphynx was originally a much more traditional Egyptian catlike design, but I wasn't happy with it so I threw out the old art and started fresh. This version feels alien and bizarre, with many drone heads around its body, Horus-y coral sensor "wings", and a very distinct silhouette. The thing on its wrist is supposed to be a Ghoul Nexus btw, hehe.

The SSC Firetip, a Dusk Wing alt frame from me and my partner's upcoming massive homebrew Portraits of a Burning World (art by me).
LORE:
The Firetip is an official reproduction of the practice of modifying Dusk Wings into starship scrappers, commonly dubbed "Rippers."
GAMEPLAY:
The Firetip is built around using its integrated Scrapper Claws to slash through enemies after carefully considering where to cut. By waiting and not attacking, the Firetip builds up Scanner Dice on enemies which it can "cash in" with the claws to deal variable damage/effects.
"Portraits" should be in your hands fairly soon, but we're still looking for playtesters to test a few licenses. If you're interested, DM me here on Reddit.
The SSC Sunset, from me and my partner's upcoming massive homebrew Portraits of a Burning World (art by me).
Hey yall I'm L-Mop, the artist and writer for a homebrew that has been in development for some time. I think we're about at the point where we can begin to reveal it to the wider community, so I will be posting my drawings and descriptions of the mechs pretty frequently here until I run out.
LORE:
The SSC Sunset was Smith Shimano's answer to the IPS-N Raleigh, until the Raleigh underperformed and the project was quietly cancelled. Internal teams of engineers loved the design, however, and eventually released the reloading Striker chassis to wide critical acclaim.
DESIGN:
Art-wise, the Sunset is heavily inspired by samurai and sumo imagery, as well as EVAs from Evangelion and the colors of its Madagascan Sunset Moth namesake. It's meant to be an agile fighter, and I'm quite happy with how I communicated that (even if the long neck is a little silly).
"Portraits" should be in your hands fairly soon, but we still need playtesters for a few frames and licenses before release! If you would be interested in helping to test our LCP, DM me here on Reddit. For everyone else, get hyped!
Guys I cant figure out how to get past this impossible puzzle (towards the end of the game I think?) and I really need help. I right clicked on Outer Wilds on Steam and there's a big button that says "INSTALL" with an arrow next to it. What do I do?
