Can we drop the topic of canon Zutara and just ship? Also drop the faux wokeism of shipping on this side at least?

I really hope this doesn’t offend anyone. The Alta fandom needs to move on.

A lot of the discourse around Zutara lately, especially since the LA, has revolved around either baiting or whether it’ll become canon. I think the majority of us already know it won’t, and that’s never really been the point.

What I’ve noticed on this side of the fandom is that with every resurgence, whether it was the movie leak or any other one, puts us between a rock and a hard place. We’re constantly met with comparisons between fictional characters and real world atrocities, alongside an abnormal level of loathing for the ship’s sustained popularity for two decades.

It’s exhausting.

This ship is over twenty years old. At this point, anyone insisting that people only ship Zutara for some superficial reason, or whatever the latest accusation is being willfully ignorant and delusional. There are countless essays, videos, and analyses explaining why people ship and prefer Zutara.

Personally, I think it’s time for a different approach. Rather than constantly defending the ship against every accusation, we should simply stop engaging. Fandom spaces increasingly consume fiction through a moral lens, and as someone who reads a lot, I know so many whom authors have written deeply moving and radical stories they don’t stand for in real life. Anything can work in a story IF done right. But real life, that’s an entire different ball game. And frankly, people who are actually living under oppressive systems are far more concerned with the realities they face than with policing what fictional characters strangers enjoy.

I understand why the topic is so heated right now. But Kataang becoming canon over two decades ago didn’t end the ship wars, and I don’t think either ship becoming canon would magically resolve them now. I think we’ve reached a point of no return with the animosity people have toward each other over fictional characters.

I’d rather we enjoy the ship than endlessly justifying why we enjoy it. They aren’t interested in understanding.

Some Antis are CRAZY. The Guy who would rather watch Horse explicit content for HOURS than zutara happening (@theescaperoompodcast)

I randomly stumbled upon this guy after going down a rabbit hole for hours. He had his friend whom he introduced Alta to who shipped Zutara at first watch sign a contract to never speak about Zutara to him.

He had an interview with Toph’s VA saying he ran out of his house because his friend likes Zutara. I swear the weird look she gave him after he admitted that was GOLDEN.

He would also rather watch multiple hours of horse explicit content over Zutara happening.

He also reduced us to a minority, and promised to unleash rage no one has never seen if Zutara is canon in LA.

God I watched all his “zutara hate videos” with tears of laughter in my eyes. The reaction Zutara draws out of these people is absolutely insane and hilarious.

The cast doesn’t hate Zutara, canon shippers propaganda (@Youngentertainment)

They keep saying they hate it, but In reality, they get the appeal of it. Look how picky they are with their words because this fandom is miserable.

I don’t watch NALTA, and I’m not hoping for zutara canon BUT THE CHEMISTRY.

I don’t watch the show, but I’ve seen every clip of theirs. In every lifetime, they’ll always have the better chemistry. The live action may not be the best but Zutara makes so much sense they just can’t help outperforming everyone else together. The Katara actress has better performance chemistry with Dallas.

No wonder Bryke retconned animated Zutara friendship.

Have We Ever Appreciated Our Fic Authors Who Are Now Published, Inspired By Zutara, or Zutara Stan Authors? Zutara Stans Stay Media Literate (Found This on Tt Today @vanessagamoo)

N.K Jeminsin (Fic writer)

Senlinyu (Fic writer)

Sarah Hashem (saw a couple of comments say she’s a stan, don’t know myself).

Susan Dennard (has a couple inspired by Zutara in her books)

Tracy Deon (She’s getting a movie adaptation! Has Zutara inspired trilogy)

Rebecca Kuang (one of my favs ever. I wondered why I loved Rinzeha so hard, turns out it was just Zutara in reverse)

Comments also expressed that Rebecca and Tracy were getting dragged for being stans. These antis don’t know when to quit.

The fanfiction writers in this community are genuinely some of the most impressive writers out there. Thank you for your service.

You Can’t Make Them Make This Much Sense And Do Nothing About It…. (Credit goes AlexaLexie on YT)

I think by now, all of us have seen this edit or most of us have. It meant everything to me as a kid. This is by far top 5 Alta edits in terms of storytelling and thematic sequencing….

Why do canon shippers expect us to care for their ship, just because it’s canon? When has canon ever been the metric for good writing?

I know there’s a level of respect we’re meant to have for each other, and it’s completely fine to love and ship the canon. But why do canon shippers behave as if it’s the greatest love story of all time when a quick video analysis essay on YouTube or just essays in general on Zutara demolishes the entire writing of the romantic subplot ? Shipping has never been about having a special reason in the first place but honestly, Zutara is one of those that actually makes so much sense. The only disadvantage Zutara had was it needed a little more development, a Book 4 or a few more episodes. But even as it stands, it’s just better written.
Zutara is the hottest ship of Alta. The most interesting dynamic that has become an engine of creativity. Its shippers have produced some of the finest writing of the last decade (fics and published works alike). The art is also much more complex, intriguing and intimate.

I genuinely do not understand these strict canon shippers. They’re missing out on great content over a generic, underwritten subplot romance just because Zutara was never “a romance” in the show?

Newsflash! Not every love story is a romance. Romance and the romance genre are not synonymous.
