Can’t Ki Pulse To Save My Life… Am I a degenerate?

I somehow just managed to beat Hiruko (Nioh 3) purely in ninja style. I thought his second phase was impossible but it turns out he hates poison.

I have +57 poison imbue hatchets and I use poison ninjutsu alongside it and will literally run away as poison ticks away at a boss’s health bar until they get close enough for me to pull off the cheesy victory. I tried to fight Hiruko in a more noble way but resorted to my comfortable poison cheese to pull off the W.

That’s now the entirety of the game up until this point played entirely in ninja style, seeking the cheesiest wins possible…

I have to ask, is this the most degenerate way to play Nioh 3? Am I missing a huge part of the game by ignoring samurai style and playing this way? Am I a shameful person?

Day 36

I just wanted to hop in here and remind everyone of how good it feels to quit. My heart doesn’t pound in my chest anymore, my anxiety is way less potent, and my mood isn’t controlled by my need to constantly put another pouch in my receding gums. I never thought I’d make it to day 36 but I’m here. Every day away from day 1 feels easier.

I was a former can-a-day user of 6mg. Nothing crazy, but I felt crazy with how enslaved I was. The first week of quitting now feels like it happened year ago. I remember the constant agitation, the bargaining with yourself (trying to rationalize less pouches used per day), the tension in my hands and jaw from being denied what was once a staple of my daily life.

You all can do it.

Beginner here. I’ve read enough about Nioh 3 to understand that it’s a common mistake for people to go into it assuming that it’ll play similarly to dark souls, Elden Ring, etc.

However, what I’m not understanding, is what the beginner experience is supposed to be like for these games?

This is my first Nioh game I’ve played, and holy fuck… I am miserable!

I’ve played through all dark souls games, Elden Ring, Lies of P, Bloodborne, and Sekiro… And I think Nioh 3 is the least beginner-friendly of all of those. Nothing feels intuitive.

I’ve made it to this boss, Jakotsu-Baba, and I’m finding that I can’t even get started before I’m, well… dead.

I don’t understand how/when to be aggressive, back off, parry (?), use these fucking ninja skills? It’s honestly making me sad because I like the idea of the game, but the mechanical messiness of it is ruining it for me.

Any advice helps! I want to git gud. Genuinely. I just don’t understand what that looks like. Do I dodge? Parry everything? Get a couple hits in and run? Be as aggressive as possible? Is this common for new Nioh players? Am I meant to be miserable?

EDIT: I DID IT! I beat that snaked handed motherfucker. I ended up needing to play much more aggressively and ran circles around J-Baba instead of playing passively and somehow that worked.
