I found a lost iPhone on my walk
Update: 2026-05-19 19:30 PDT. I was able to get in touch with the owner by taking the iPhone out of Flight Mode by going into emergency calling and trying to dial a number. Then it got text messages and I was able to message one of them without a contact saved who got me in contact with the owner. I will be meeting up with the owner at a public place at 20:00 and returning it (I’m going to walk my dog there as it isn’t too far).
I found a lost iPhone 11 whilst walking my dog and I want to return it to its rightful owner but I can’t get contact info.
They don’t have a medical ID setup. It requires it to be unlocked to use Siri (to try and call a contact). And it is in flight mode. I took the SIM card out and put it in an old google pixel and got the phone number from it and it is a local number, is there anything I can do with that maybe?
The iPhone was dead when I found it but I brought it home and dug up a lightning charger but the port is so dirty it wouldn’t fit. I used a MagSafe charger because despite the iPhone 11 not having MagSafe it does still have wireless charging. The lock screen photo is just a generic photo so no personal info that way. I also tried 2 passcodes just 123456 and 000000 and neither worked and I don’t want to lock them out of their phone.
It’s in really rough physical condition and is really dirty. The back camera is shattered and it won’t go to the camera from the lock screen as well.
The iPhone is still findable so maybe someone will track it and knock on my door?
Also the phone was found along side a local primary school right next to the fence and its condition suggests that possibly it was ejected from a car but that’s just pure speculation. The phone is also really really dirty. It had to have been there for less than 24 hours since I take my dog on that route daily and would noticed it if it was there the previous day.
Anyway does anyone else have any idea on any other way I can track this person down?
