Where are the servers?

Just a couple weeks ago I would see a dozen or so servers with good populations, but this past week I’ve only seen maybe two or three with only one full, and today I can’t even find a server. Am I missing something?

People who broke their relocation contract, what happened?

I’ve been working at G.E. for a little over a year now, I really enjoy what I do and feel pretty well compensated and supported for my first job out of school, I just cannot stand the area I live in. It seems G.E. has a tendency to build their plants in the literal middle of nowhere, something I thought I could handle, until I actually started living in the middle of nowhere. I’ve been slowly going insane with nothing to do and no one my age to interact with, I’m pretty extroverted and enjoy city life, so I guess it’s kind of my own fault for failing to properly research the area beforehand, but can you blame me for taking the first offer right after graduation for the amount they dangled in front of me?

I’m at my breaking point, far past it in fact, I’m honestly surprised I’ve lasted this long. The thing that’s kept me here has been my relocation contract (and the whole my only source of income, but that can be changed much more easier). I cannot fathom adding any more debt to my already steep student loans and car loan. Between moving up here, a month of temp living, and the ‘starting bonus’, I’d owe back roughly $16k with no hope of proration. I feel chained to this location with no chance of leaving and my sanity on the line.

I know that I’m able to apply for a transfer after 18 months, so that’s coming up soon, it’s just the thought of getting there makes me feel sick. I just don’t know how long after that 18 months it’d take to actually land a role at a different location, and whether or not the relocation I accrued at my current location would carry over. For people who decided to leave before their relocation contract ended, what was repayment like? What was your situation like? Am I crazy for wanting to move so early?

How can I start?

I graduated a little over a year ago with a B.S. in mechanical-aerospace engineering and got my first job in the middle of nowhere VT, to say there is little to do is an understatement. The winter was brutal and I kinda just hermited my way through it just playing video games and complaining. It’s summer now, and I’ve come to the realization that if I’m going to survive for another year and a half (due to work contract) I need something to do.

I want to use my degree not only for professional and career reasons, but for personal reasons (cost over 6 figures, better get as much as I can out of it). I know my degree doesn’t exactly translate to robotics, give me a rocket or plane and watch it fly, but I took some classes that involved the theory and have always found it interesting (wanted to minor in robotics but my school didn’t offer it).

I’m looking to start a small project, something to keep me occupied and give me a new skill. I would love to build a small device that could wave my cat’s wand toy around while I’m not home or away on a trip to help keep him entertained (yes I could just buy an automated toy but where’s the fun in that). I have no experience here and have no idea where to even begin with design, coding, and sourcing materials. Any tips and insight would be greatly appreciated, as even a nudge in the right direction might help me get going and help make the time in this frigid place go by quicker.

Is this the play?

I (22m) graduated last May with a BS in Mechanical-Aerospace engineering and got my first job last August starting near 6 figures in rural New England (to give a cost of living context). I started payments in December on both my loan and a parent plus loan through my mom. Adding in my car loan, I owed a total of roughly $140k at a mixed interest rate between 5%-7.125% (consolidated just three separate loans). As of today I owe roughly $125k through some big payments I was able to achieve through saving over the past few months. My goal is to be completely debt free by 2030, that means I’m putting about $2300/mo total towards my loans, as well as any extra I can manage. This doesn’t leave me with much to play with, but I’m still living comfortably and am able to manage it, plus if things get tight I have about $1000 to pull out of loan payments to help, as well as $8k in a HYSA. That being said, I’m wondering if it’s worth taking on this challenge, because the idea of being debt free by 26 is awesome, but is there a better way I can be using my money? My minimum payments total about $1350/mo currently, but will jump up to almost $1800/mo next year. My question is essentially am I going about this in the right way given that I’m able to manage it and am living within my means, or should I be using my money in a different way to set myself up for a more financially secure future (ie stocks, savings, etc).
