Anyone else got this bad respiratory virus in NYC ?
I've been seeing a lot of posts about an unknown respiratory virus circulating around other cities but not here in NYC. It starts out like a cold, runny nose, mild cough. Tends to get better briefly before getting worse, severe chest congestion, terrible cough, sore throat, ear pressure. In my house, I have it along with my two kids. My older son got to the point where they had to prescribe Albuterol and prednisone to manage his breathing followed by antibiotics for a secondary ear infection. Still somewhat sick after 3 weeks. Younger child also needed Albuterol, budesonide, and prednisone and then antibiotics for suspected walking pneumonia. I've had the same symptoms plus fatigue, doctor put me on antibiotics for bronchitis and suspicion that pneumonia may be setting in.
My older kid's high school has had a lot of illness lately, and I'm a teacher in Brooklyn and we've probably had double the rate of absences among both staff and students in recent weeks.
Between myself and the kids, been to the doctor 6 times the past 2 1/2 weeks. Only my older son has mostly improved. We know it's not cold, flu, RSV, or strep. Just never seen something like this where s symptoms beyond a mild cough are lingering in everyone for so long. People in California, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and elsewhere are reporting the same symptoms so I wanted to see if any else in the NYC area is dealing with it.
