Tree of lost runes.

Hi.
I found a really weird thing that i've never seen. On death, sometimes, instead of some branches, i drop an entire tree of runes. I asked on a facebook group, and the few people that saw it said that they haven't seen it before.
For context, i haven't played this game in like two years. So, in order to get the hang of the mechanics, i created an exclusively offline chated file, where i only have all stats at max, the rest is normal. At one point, i realized that my fps dropped enough to notice, then saw the tree, picked it up, and my fps stabilized.
I imagined that it was because i was holding an absurd amount of souls, let's say good million from bosses and the such. But then, when i returned to my main, legitimate save, i got it again a couple of times with, let's say, forty thousand souls.
I want to make clear now, i'm not using any mods whatsoever. The way i cheated was a fancy cheat engine, meaning no internal files were modified, just the numbers.
I personally think that this was either added in the time that i wasn't playing, or is a "subtle" way to out cheaters. However, i've read people saying that they haven't seen it.
Have you seen it? Do you know how to trigger it at will?
I don't really care if it's a visual penalty, i play exclusively pve, because i like to dodge and learn patterns, but i can't find anything online, mostly because google gives sorta-related results now a days, and i'm not computer savvy enough to make those commands on the search bar that give precise results.
I don't know where to add this, but i'm playing on steam.
