Ideas how to handle one of my players characters.
I’m running an upcoming wild beyond the witchlight campaign and I love the idea of the goofy and whimsical style of the feywild. Therefor I told my players to feel free to come up with some out of the box character ideas. Yesterday, one of my players told me he’d like to play a paladin who is a televangelist style cult leader. In addition, he came up with the idea that instead of creating a new character his died, a new member of his cult would essentially portal into to replace the dead cult leader. Every character would have the same name (John) and the same stat block. The only difference is they would be a different race each time.
We decided to lay a few ground rules for this because I’m all for this idea and it sounds too funny of a character to pass up. We said that
A. He would slowly retain more and more memories as if being passed on from one John to the next (in order not to have to reintroduce himself and ask what’s going on each time a new one spawned.
B. All changes in race would be purely aesthetic (as it would be too difficult to keep readjusting his character sheet.
C. He retains the same stat block
D. He can be used once per combat at the beginning as “cannon fodder” but it’s purely for fun narrative but he cant and the party cant kill him as part of a combat strategy.
E. He can be killed off Kenny from South Park style, therefor any time anywhere in any number of dumb ways.
So my questions are if this is a good idea or bad idea for allowing this? And does anyone have any suggestions on how I can play this out?
