I thought I wasn't trying hard enough. Turns out I had hypothyroidism.

My Healing Diary – Day 2:

One thing that really frustrated me over the past year was how little weight I lost compared to how much effort I was putting in.

After I quit my job, I started exercising almost every day. Mostly YOGA, Pilates, tennis and a lot of walking.

I cook most of my own meals. I count calories. I rarely drink alcohol. I don't eat much junk food.

And after all that effort?

Six months later, I was only about 3KG lighter.

Maybe that sounds okay, but I honestly expected much more. I had gained over 20kg in the previous three years from my high-stressing work and i thought the weight would come off much faster once I started taking care of myself.

It didn't.

I kept thinking maybe I wasn't trying hard enough. Then I went to the hospital and found out I have hypothyroidism.

Suddenly a lot of things started to make sense.

I'm grateful that I didn't give up, even when I felt frustrated and wasn't seeing the results I expected.

I'm on medication now and I've recently started adding more strength training into my routine.

I'm still figuring things out, but if you're putting in a lot of effort and not seeing the results you expect, it might be worth getting some blood work done.

Sometimes there's more going on than just calories and willpower.

Thriving With Hypothyroidism

Today I skipped heavy lifting.

Just 40 minutes on the elliptical.

For years, I thought the answer was always:
train harder,
eat less,
push more.

But hypothyroidism, insomnia, chronic stress and burnout taught me something different.

Sometimes recovery is the workout.

Last night I barely slept because I was stuck thinking about a conflict in my marriage.

Today I chose not to punish my body for that.

No extra cardio.
No more sadness.

Just movement, breathing, and recovery.

To anyone struggling with hypothyroidism, hormonal imbalance, insomnia, chronic stress, or a body that feels “stuck”:

You are not lazy.
You are not weak.

Healing takes time.

One day at a time. 🌿
